Woodbridge Town Football Club has informed the Thurlow Nunn League that it will not be entering a reserve team into the 2018-19 Thurlow Nunn Reserve division. A number of contributary factors has led to the club management board making this decision.
The limited number of our younger players being either willing, or able, to commit to playing reserve football in 2018-19 in the Thurlow Nunn Reserve League. During the summer months, we have experienced a number of our second year Under 18's players moving elsewhere, as opportunities increase for young players to play step six football, as the number of locally based reserve teams entering the Thurlow Nunn League First Division increases.
It was considered by the Management Board to be innaproppriate to attempt to commence a Thurlow Nunn Reserve League campaign, relying on our (first year) under 18's players, nor, was it considered appropriate to make a knee-jerk attempt to recruit a management team for the reserves, less than three weeks before the start of the season.
Over the course of the 2018-19 season, the management board, management teams and club coaches will instead take a more considered approach into the function of the reserve team within the club framework, to provide our youth players the opportunities and confidence to progress within the club.
Woodbridge Town F.C. remains committed to fielding a reserve team in the 2019-20 season and in future seasons, as an integral element of the development pathway for youth, under 18's and senior players.
