Woodbridge Town Ladies return to league action this weekend as they take on Stowupland Falcons Women in the SGWFL Premiership. With a place in the League Cup Final booked, the Peckers can now look to get their title charge back underway on Sunday against tough opposition in Stowupland. The Homestyle UK Ground is set to play host to a great clash between two very strong sides.

It was a special day last time out for the Peckers, who beat Ipswich Valley Rangers 1-0 in the Suffolk Women’s League Cup Semi-final. A fantastic achievement for the Ladies, who will now hope to put together a good run of form as we enter the crunch point of the season. Stowupland Falcons come into this one after a difficult spell, only winning one of their last five games - admittedly, they have faced the top three in the league in that sequence, and it doesn’t get any easier as they face Woodbridge this weekend.

This is the first meeting between the two sides this season, with the reverse fixture being postponed twice during what was a rain-soaked winter. Woodbridge did complete the league double over Sunday’s opposition last campaign, beating Stowupland 5-1 at home before a 0-2 victory on the road. The last time that the Falcons beat the Peckers in the league was May 2023, where Woodbridge fell to a 4-0 defeat away from home.

Individuals stepped up for Woodbridge last week, most notably Rhianna Kiwomya, who picked up Player of the Match for her performance - Kiwomya also scored against Stowupland last season. Top goalscorer Sadie Jamieson netted her 14th goal of the campaign last weekend, alongside a brilliant display from Amy Stockley, who will once again look to run the midfield for the Peckers. The away side carry plenty of threat themselves, including Eleasha Reeves who sits on 4 goals in just 6 games, joint with Bevan and Gilson as the Falcons’ top goalscorers.

With Woodbridge still having plenty of games to catch up on, the table doesn’t reflect how the top of the table really stands. A win for the Peckers though would see them climb back above Stowupland (with 3 games in hand on the visitors) and potentially back into the top three, depending on AFC Kesgrave’s result. If the away side take the points on Saturday, they could also go third, and close the gap on the top two.

The schedule is jam-packed from now til the end of the season for the Ladies, with at least one game a week going forwards from this point. So make sure to get up to the Homestyle UK Ground and back Ashley, Nat and the team for what could be a very special season for the club.
