Woodbridge Town Ladies begin their 26/27 campaign this weekend as they welcome Needham Market Women in the Women’s FA Cup Preliminary Round.

It’s been a busy summer for the Woodpeckers, with previous manager Ash Rankin moving on, and Si Stewart stepping up to replace him. With that, there’s been plenty of change throughout the squad, creating a strong team with a mix of familiar faces and new players.

Despite an interrupted schedule, pre-season has been positive for Woodbridge, with two wins and a draw from three friendlies. A 4-1 win away at Claydon was followed by an 8-2 victory against Colchester City and a 2-2 draw at Capel Plough. With the start of the SGWFL season only two weeks away, the performances look promising heading into the new campaign.

For now though, full focus is on the Women’s FA Cup, as the Peckers return to competitive action in the most prestigious competition on the calendar.

The visitors to the Homestyle UK Ground this weekend are Needham Market Women, who play in the ERWFL Division One North - the division above the Peckers. They’re a strong side, finishing 4th in the league and reaching the final of the Suffolk FA Women’s Cup last season.

The Marketwomen began their season last Sunday, with a 1-5 loss at home to Luton Town Development. As the favourites, they’ll be hoping to get their season back on track with a win over Woodbridge this weekend.

Woodbridge Town in the FA Cup

The Woodpeckers were last in the FA Cup in the 24/25 season, where they reached the Second Qualifying Round. After beating Sprowston 4-1 in the First Qualifying Round, Woodbridge were knocked out by Cambridge City.

The two sides have met in the FA Cup before, in the Second Qualifying Round during the 23/24 season. Needham Market ran out 6-0 winners on the day, showing their quality with a strong display. Our Supporters

The support for the Ladies was brilliant last season, with attendance numbers increasing on previous years. We hope to see this continued into this campaign, as the side look to build on what was a positive season last time out.

We begin our season on Sunday 6th September, at home to newly-promoted Alresford Colne Rangers Ladies. Kick off is at 2pm.

A reminder to supporters that entry is not free for Women’s FA Cup games, with tickets sold on the gate. We look forward to welcoming everyone back home this weekend to get behind the ladies as they begin their campaign with a very difficult challenge.
