Woodbridge Town Ladies are looking for three wins on the bounce as they welcome Needham Market Development in what is a crunch tie at the top of the SGWFL Premiership. With both sides enjoying strong campaigns so far, the Homestyle UK Ground is set to play host to a brilliant clash between two top teams. Every game is important at this point in the season, and this Sunday is another great chance for the Peckers to keep the good run going.

It’s been a strong return to action for Woodbridge, who after reaching the League Cup Final two weeks ago, beat Stowupland Falcons 2-1 at home. A strong performance against a top side, and another showing of the quality that the Peckers possess. Needham Market weren’t in action last weekend, however did lose out in the League Plate Semi-Final two weeks ago. Before that, the visitors had won eight in a row - a very strong record that sees them sit 2nd in the table.

The two sides are yet to meet this season, as Woodbridge will travel to Needham Market next weekend as they face Needham in back to back weekends. Last season, both games between the two teams ended in draws, as a 1-1 at Needham was followed by a 2-2 at home for the Peckers. The last time Woodbridge beat Sunday’s visitors was the 23/24 season, where the Woodpeckers ran out 3-1 winners.

Last weekend saw Lola Beaumont score her first goal of the season - hopefully the first of many this campaign. Top goalscorer Sadie Jamieson will also provide a threat, and expect Amy Stockley to be heavily involved in this fixture; the Woodbridge midfielder has been consistently solid this campaign. Needham Market have plenty of quality in their squad, including top scorer Imogen Porch who sits on 8 goals so far this season. Lexie Ferris and Paige Pugh will also be threats in the final third, with both players enjoying strong campaigns.

Both sides will have ambitions of chasing AFC Sudbury Reserves down at the top of the table, meaning every point matters at this stage. A win for Woodbridge could see them jump back into the top three, and sit seven points behind Needham Market with six (yes, six!) games in hand. If Needham take the points on Sunday, they would close the gap to the league leaders to two points, and increase the gap to the teams behind.

We hope to see as many of you as possible at the Homestyle UK Ground and getting behind the side for this crucial game. Your support is massively appreciated, and it’s been great to see strong attendances at our most recent matches! Let’s keep building momentum, and hopefully we’ll have something to celebrate at the end of the season.
