PREVIEW: Halesworth Town Women vs Woodbridge Town Ladies

Woodbridge Town Ladies are looking to return to winning ways this weekend as they travel to take on Halesworth Town Women in the SGWFL Premiership. This matchup has been a competitive one over the season, and I’m sure it will deliver another strong game with both sides needing points to climb the table.

It’s been a difficult run for the Peckers recently, as they’ve failed to win in their last three. A draw and a loss - both against Needham Market - was followed up by a 2-2 draw at home to Capel Plough last Sunday. For Halesworth Town, they picked up a big win against Ramsey & Mistley last time out, bouncing back from a 9-0 loss to AFC Sudbury Reserves the week before. Halesworth’s results overall are very mixed and hard to predict, demonstrated by the fact they only lost 1-2 to the same AFC Sudbury side earlier in the season.

This match presents the fourth meeting between the two sides this season, after Woodbridge were drawn against Halesworth in both cups. The home league game saw the Peckers win 6-1, before the League Cup game was won in extra time by Woodbridge 1-2 away from home. However, it was Halesworth who progressed in the Women’s Cup beating the Woodpeckers 4-1. A complete mix of results, leaving it very difficult to work out how this Sunday will play out!

Woodbridge may be out of form, but Rhianna Kiwomya certainly isn’t. The Peckers forward has scored five goals in her last four games, including a double last weekend against Capel. Looking further back, Lauren Jacobs has been solid defensively for the Woodpeckers, with a Player of the Match performance against Needham a couple weeks ago.

Halesworth also has plenty of threat in the final third, most notably Louise Nichols, who has scored an impressive eleven goals in eight games so far this season. Lucy Robbens netted her fourth of the campaign last time out, and she’ll want to continue her good form from the past few weeks.

The table is still not representative of where sides should end up, with some teams having played six more games than Woodbridge. If the Peckers do win this weekend, they would build a gap to the sides below and start to close in on the top three in the league. Three points for Halesworth could see them jump ahead of Woodbridge into fourth, although they would have played two games more.

Your support has been brilliant all season, and the Peckers need it now more than ever for the last ten games of the season - as well as the League Cup Final next month! Let’s keep backing Ash, Nat and the side for what could be a brilliant end to the season and, as always, UP THE PECKERS!
