Woodbridge Town Ladies are back in league action for the first time in 84 days, as the Peckers travel to take on Halesworth Town on Sunday. It’s been a long wait for the ladies, as postponements and cancellations have dominated the winter months, but finally Woodbridge can get their title charge back underway. With other teams having a less interrupted schedule, the pressure is on the Peckers to play catch up in the second half of the season.
The last time Woodbridge were in action was against the same opposition, as they fell to a 0-4 loss at home to Halesworth. This saw the Ladies knocked out of the Suffolk FA Women’s Cup in disappointing fashion. However, the unbeaten record remains in the league and the Peckers will be keen to keep the run going on Sunday and redeem themselves for that cup defeat. It’s also been a while since the visitors were involved in league action, however Halesworth Town did beat Beccles Town last weekend to progress to the Semi-Finals of the Women’s Cup. Woodbridge will need to sharp from minute one here, as any rustiness could hand an advantage to the away side.
Despite only playing 5 league games so far this campaign, it has been a very good start to the season for Woodbridge. Scoring 29 goals in all competitions has seen the Ladies remain unbeaten in the league, and reach the last four of the County Cup. Sadie Jamieson has netted the bulk of those with 13, but Freya Emerick’s 5 goals in 6 games is still an impressive feat. A squad update as well for the Peckers, as striker Evie-Jae Laughlin has left the club. We thank Evie for her time at the WTFC and wish her all the best for the future.
The league table sees Woodbridge sat in 4th, but with 3 games in hand on 1st and 4 games in hand on 2nd and 3rd, there are plenty of points up for grabs in the second half of the campaign. If the Peckers are to win all their extra games, they would go joint-top of the league. A win for Halesworth Town on Sunday could see them jump into the top half, depending on other results. Both sides know how important a win could be for their league campaigns, and this fourth meeting between the two sides this season should be a belter.
Every game is a big match for Woodbridge now, and this Sunday is no different. Thank you all for your support throughout 2025, and as the Ladies look to finally get the new year underway, we ask you to keep backing the Peckers as they push for silverware this season. UP THE PECKERS!
