PREVIEW: Capel Plough Ladies vs Woodbridge Town Ladies

It’s a quick turnaround for Woodbridge Town Ladies this week, as they travel to take on Capel Plough Ladies on Tuesday night. 48 hours on from Sunday’s victory over Brantham Athletic, the Peckers will need to be ready and raring to go again as they enter the final four games of the season. Both sides have aspirations of finishing as high as possible, making this clash another big game for the Ladies.

Woodbridge returned to winning ways last weekend with a 2-0 win against Brantham Athletic Devs, after a difficult run of fixtures saw the Peckers pick up one victory in the seven games previous. Capel Plough were also in fine form at the weekend, as they beat Bacton United 5-0. The hosts have only lost twice in their last eight fixtures, seeing them surge up the table towards the top half.

The reverse fixture between the two sides ended in a 2-2 draw, with Woodbridge coming from 0-2 down to salvage a point from that game. It was a testament to the danger tonight’s hosts can carry going forwards, with the Peckers being opened up too easily on that day. Last season, Woodbridge completed the league double over Capel, with 5-0 and 1-5 victories; they’ll be hoping for something similar this time around.

The hosts certainly have players that can cause the Peckers problems, as proven in the fixture a month ago. Eboni-Mae Shepherd is a big threat for Capel, with eight goals this season in just fourteen games - including the opener at the Homestyle UK Ground. M’Leah Wright is another forward to watch out for, also with eight goals this campaign.

Woodbridge will also turn to their firepower coming forwards, with Sadie Jamieson still the league’s top goalscorer with seventeen goals. Rhianna Kiwomya has been in brilliant form since the turn of the year, as she netted her seventh of the season last time out. The Peckers know that a solid defensive performance will also be required in this clash with the threat posed by the opposition.

Looking at the SGWFL Premiership table, a win for Woodbridge would strengthen their grip on fourth place, with the top three looking out of sight at this late stage in the campaign. If Capel Plough claim the three points, they could close the gap to the sides above, and increase their chances of a top half finish.

We can also confirm that our Suffolk Women’s League Cup Final against AFC Sudbury Women Reserves is Sunday 17th May at Framlingham Town FC, with kick off at 5pm. We need as many of you as possible to come and get behind the Ladies as they look to claim the club’s first trophy of the season!

Thank you for all your support this season, it is very much appreciated. Every game is huge between now and the end of the campaign, so let’s get behind Ash, Nat and the team for five important clashes. Keep pushing right til the very end and, as always, UP THE PECKERS!
