Woodbridge Town Ladies are on the road for midweek action as they travel to take on Brantham Athletic Ladies Development. The Peckers are searching for their first win in four games, with nine league games still left to play across two months. The title looks out of reach, but the fight for second is hotting up - making every game between now and the end of the campaign crucial.
It’s been a difficult run of late for the Woodpeckers, with only one win in their last five - a draw and a loss to Needham Market Devs was followed by a draw to Capel Plough and a defeat to Halesworth Town last time out. Woodbridge are also looking for their first away win in 2026. Brantham have also had a difficult run of late, with only one victory in their last seven. The hosts fell to a narrow defeat on Sunday to AFC Kesgrave, showing they have the quality to compete with the top sides.
The two teams are yet to meet this season, with the reverse fixture coming up later this month. Tonight’s matchup is the first time that Woodbridge will take on Brantham’s Development side since their promotion from the SGWFL Championship last season. It sets up an exciting clash, with neither side knowing too much about their opponent.
Although they fell to defeat, the Peckers had plenty of positives to take from Sunday’s loss. Sadie Jamieson found the back of the net for the 16th time this season, as she still stands as Woodbridge’s leading goalscorer. Rhianna Kiwomya has also been in electric form since the start of the year with five goals in the last five games. The Woodpeckers have firepower going forwards, and will want to cause problems for the Brantham backline.
Ellis Rabey and Rachel White lead the goalscoring charts for Brantham with five goals each this campaign. Chloe Wilson found her fourth of the game in their last victory over Stowupland, showing the range of threats that they could pose to the Peckers. Woodbridge will hope to expose a Brantham defense that has only kept three clean sheets so far this season.
Both sides sit next to each other in the table, with Woodbridge ahead on goal difference and with three games in hand. A win for the Peckers would fire them into fourth and back ahead of Halesworth Town, with a top three finish firmly in their sights. Three points for Brantham would also put them up into fourth, and elevate them right into the top half battle.
The games are coming thick and fast for the Ladies now, with two games a week from now until the end of the campaign. Your support has been much appreciated this season, and with the Men’s season coming to a close next weekend, we would love to see as many of you as possible getting behind the Peckers for the run-in - we are back at home this Sunday against AFC Kesgrave. Let’s hope for victory tonight, and, as always, UP THE PECKERS!
