Woodbridge Town Ladies are in Thursday night action this week as they travel to take on Bacton United Ladies in the SGWFL Premiership. With two games left of the season, the Peckers’ are pushing to finish as high as possible and build momentum before the Women’s League Cup Final in two weeks time. It won’t be an easy trip, as despite sitting bottom of the table, Bacton have shown they have the quality to cause any team problems on their day.
Woodbridge weren’t in action over the bank holiday weekend, but did take on Capel Plough Ladies last Tuesday - where they fell to a 3-1 defeat away from home. The Peckers have won two of their last five, with both victories coming against Brantham Athletic Dev. Meanwhile, Bacton have lost their last three games, with postponements wiping out half their April schedule.
These two sides have met twice so far this season, with Woodbridge beating tonight’s hosts 2-1 in the league and 3-0 in the first round of the Women’s League Cup. The Peckers will hope to replicate the performances from those games, whilst Bacton will want to use home advantage to try and turn the tide in their favour.
If Bacton are to trouble the Woodpeckers in this game, they’ll hope that Gabrielle Whitehurst can add to her four goals in eight games this season. Amy Kerry and Daisy Ross were both on the scoresheet last time against Stowupland, showing the quality they possess coming forwards.
Woodbridge also carry danger in the frontline, with Sadie Jamieson leading the top scorers list in the division with seventeen goals. Rhianna Kiwomya’s strong form has taken her to seven goals this campaign, whilst Freya Emerick sits on a respectable five. However, the Peckers’ defensive record has faltered since the turn of the year, with Woodbridge only keeping three clean sheets in 2026.
With only two games left in the campaign, every point has a big impact on the league table. A win for Woodbridge would fire them back into fourth - the highest position the Peckers can mathematically finish this season. Three points for Bacton would put them only two points behind Ramsey & Mistley, but still stuck to the bottom of the table.
We can also confirm that our Suffolk Women’s League Cup Final against AFC Sudbury Women Reserves is Sunday 17th May at Framlingham Town FC, with kick off at 5pm. We need as many of you as possible to come and get behind the Ladies as they look to claim the club’s first trophy of the season!
We can’t thank you enough for your support this season, it never goes unnoticed. It’s been a testing season at times, especially with the disrupted schedule, but the Ladies have done well to compete at the sharp end of the table. Let’s get behind the side for two massive games, and the cup final, and as always, UP THE PECKERS!
