Friday night action at the Homestyle UK Ground sees Woodbridge Town host Kirkley & Pakefield under the lights. With the highly anticipated return of Woodbridge Town legend Mark Ray, and an opportunity for the Peckers to get back to winning ways, tonight is set to be a brilliant encounter against a Kirkley & Pakefield side who will provide a tough test.
2026 has not gone the way Woodbridge would’ve wanted so far, with three losses in four games since the turn of the year. An 8-3 defeat away at Haverhill was followed by a 0-4 loss at home to Ely City, but with both sides being in the promotion hunt, those ties were expected to be difficult. Tonight’s visitors have had a very mixed run of late, winning two and losing three in their last five - Kirkley’s most recent fixture being a 0-1 loss at home to Lakenheath, who are sat in 16th.
The meeting between these two sides earlier in the season saw Kirkley & Pakefield take the three points, as they beat the Peckers 2-0 back in August. First-half goals from Ben George and Macaulay Holt were enough to see off Woodbridge, in a game that saw Ryan Marsh dismissed in the second half. Previous meetings between the two sides include a 1-1 draw at the Homestyle UK Ground last season, alongside a 2-5 win for the Peckers away at Kirkley last campaign. Both sides are capable of getting the better of one another, but who will take the win this evening?
Well, Woodbridge will want to improve on a poor defensive run of late, but with the quality in the backline, the lads know that they can rediscover the form from the middle of the season. The big excitement for Peckers’ fans tonight though is the return of Mark Ray, as the deadly number nine will be back in a black-and-white shirt! Whether Ray starts or comes off the bench, he will hope to have the instant impact that the Peckers need.
Looking at the visitors, Cameron Russell will provide a threat for Kirkley & Pakefield, as he looks to add to his 12 goals and 5 assists so far this season. Ben George has put up a respectable 5 goals this campaign, and will hope to add to the goal he scored against the Peckers earlier this season. Both teams have enjoyed good scoring runs but have also conceded quite a few of late, so expect the goalkeepers to be busy tonight!
A win for Woodbridge this evening could see the Peckers climb as high as 12th, and go level on points with tonight’s opposition. Kirkley & Pakefield would jump into the top ten if they take the three points, and start to build a gap on the teams below. With Woodbridge wanting to finish in a strong position, this next run of games could be crucial, so a win in this fixture would be a good start to building a strong run of form.
Performances of late have not been representative of what this side is capable of, and I’m sure Chris, Liam and the lads are very keen to get back on track with a win tonight. Thank you for all your support so far this campaign, it really is appreciated. Let’s keep backing the lads for every 90 minutes left, and as always, UP THE PECKERS!
