PREVIEW: Woodbridge Town vs Heacham FC

Woodbridge Town vs Heacham FC - 17/01/26
Woodbridge Town vs Heacham FC - 17/01/26

For the third time this season, Woodbridge Town welcome Heacham FC to the Homestyle UK Ground. With the first two fixtures being abandoned due to floodlight failure and fog, hopefully this Saturday will see no problems and the fixture can finally be completed. The Peckers led both games before they were called off, so hopefully the lads can once again deliver against the Magpies.

It’s been a mixed run of games for Woodbridge as of late, having won two and lost three in their last five. With last week’s fixture vs Hadleigh United being postponed, the lads will hope to pick up where they left off against Walsham, where the Peckers ran out 2-4 winners. It’s been a much tougher spell for the visitors, who have only picked up one win in twelve games in all competitions. The Magpies have only claimed one away victory this season - which came on the road against Fakenham Town. This difficult run has seen Heacham fall to bottom of the table, as they now sit a point behind Cornard.

The only completed fixture between the two sides this season was the reverse fixture, where Woodbridge took the points with a 1-3 victory. As for the abandoned games, it was the Peckers who led both times at the half - 1-0 in the first attempt, and 2-0 in the second - however, as we know, none of those games were completed. Woodbridge seem to have the upper hand over the Magpies this season, but the lads will need to deliver performances of a similar vein on Saturday to come away with the three points.

It was another solid scoring display from the Peckers last time out, with Connor Field netting on his return to the side to take his total to eight goals this season. That win saw Laurie Higgs score his first senior goal for the club, as well as seeing Liam Ablitt return to the scoresheet. Up against a Heacham defence that have conceded 68 goals this season, Woodbridge will hope to deliver a clinical performance in front of goal. The Magpies will turn to top scorer Toby Hilliard to guide them to victory - a player that was already bagged against the Peckers this season.

A win for Woodbridge on Saturday could see them climb into the top ten, depending on results elsewhere. However, with the Peckers having at least one or two games in hand on the teams around them, there’s plenty of opportunities to jump up the table. A win for Heacham could put them as high as 15th, and end what has been a disappointing run for the visitors.

We look forward to welcoming back as many of you as possible this weekend, and hopefully this fixture can finally be finished! It’s a huge weekend for both Mens and Ladies teams here at Woodbridge Town, so make sure to get down to the Homestyle UK Ground on Saturday and Sunday to see both teams in action. Let’s get behind the lads for what should be a very positive second half of the season and, as always, UP THE PECKERS!
