Woodbridge Town are back on the road in 2026 as they make the trip to Walsham Le Willows, in search of their first win of the new year. With abandoned games and postponements dominating the winter months, both teams will be keen to deliver a solid performance and take a valuable three points away from this clash. And, with only twelve points separating 4th and 14th in the league, every game is a big game as the end of the campaign draws closer.
The meeting earlier in the season between the two sides was a well-contested 1-1 draw at the Homestyle UK Ground, in a game that really could’ve gone either way. Recent form does favour Walsham, as a difficult winter has seen Woodbridge lose four of their last five games in all competitions. If the Peckers can go back to the run before that, which saw them go five games unbeaten, then this game could swing in their favour. The hosts meanwhile have picked up two wins and a draw in their most recent fixtures, with their only losses of late coming against the top two sides in the league. The Willows will be confident that they can build on their good form and take more points off the Peckers.
Despite the game being abandoned last week, Woodbridge still showed how dangerous they can look coming forwards. Kye Webb is always a threat to opposition defences, and could be the key to unlocking the Walsham backline. The return of Connor Field will also be a positive for the Peckers, especially if he can find a run similar to the one that saw him score five goals in four games earlier in the season. Having conceded in all of their last eight fixtures, there’ll also be a focus from Woodbridge to be defensively solid in this game. With club captain Sean Rea holding the fort and Toby Hurst being reliable as always, a clean sheet would go a long way to securing the all-important victory.
It won’t be easy to keep the hosts quiet however, as they do pack a punch coming forwards. Walsham’s top scorer George Bugg has caused problems for every opposition he’s faced this season, netting ten goals so far this campaign. Reon Huckvale is another player that could pose a threat to Woodbridge, as he hopes to add to a respectable total of seven goals. The backline for the Willows has also remained solid this season, and with only nineteen goals conceded in fourteen home games, the Peckers will have to be clinical in this match to come away with anything.
A win for Woodbridge could see them rise as high as 10th, but would need results elsewhere to go their way. Still, with the midpack as tight as it is, a good run over the second half of the season could see the Peckers fly through the table and end in a very positive position. If Walsham are to take the points, they could climb into 7th, and sit only three points outside the play-offs.
The first half of the season for Woodbridge was very up and down, and we appreciate all your support through the highs and the lows. Let’s get behind the team and staff for what could be a very positive second half of the season for the club. If you can’t make the trip to Walsham this weekend, then we look forward to welcoming you back home next weekend as we take on Hadleigh United. Your support is very much appreciated, keep backing the lads and as always, UP THE PECKERS!
