PREVIEW: Stowupland Falcons Women vs Woodbridge Town Ladies

Woodbridge Town are back in league action for the first time since the start of November, as they travel to face fellow title challengers Stowupland Falcons. Despite it being January, the ladies have only played 5 league matches this season - with postponements dominating the winter months. However, if this fixture does go ahead on Sunday, a tight clash is expected between the Peckers who sit 2nd and the Falcons who occupy 3rd.

It was a disappointing loss last time out for Woodbridge, who were turned over 0-4 by Halesworth Town in the Cup. Having already beaten Halesworth twice this season, it was a day to forget for the Peckers. However, the unbeaten record in the league still stands, and the ladies will hope to continue the title charge on Sunday with a good performance. As for the hosts, it’s been a mixed start to the season - a good start to the campaign has been marred by 3 losses in a row. But, now that Stowupland are out of both cups, expect their focus to be all on the league title.

If Woodbridge are to get a positive result on Sunday, they’ll be hoping that Sadie Jamieson continues her goalscoring form, having netted 8 goals in 4 league games - the most in the division. She’s not the only Pecker to have scored more goals than games played this season so far, as Freya Emerick sits on 4 goals in her 3 appearances. The ladies have looked deadly in front of goal, and will be a handful for the Stowupland defence. The hosts on the other hand will be turning to their top goalscorer Clare Bevan to give them the edge in what could be a close encounter.

A win for the Peckers would close the gap to AFC Sudbury Reserves at the top of the table to just 3 points, with the ladies still having another game in hand on the leaders. It would also see Woodbridge increase their lead over Stowupland to 4 points, again having played one game less. If the Falcons do take victory on Sunday, then they would jump the Peckers and go 4 points off top spot.

Expect a tight game between two sides who have looked very strong this season, and let’s hope Woodbridge can keep the unbeaten run in the league going! Thank you all for your support so far this campaign, and if you are planning to make the trip to Stowupland, please check the socials on the day for confirmation of the game going ahead (the weather may have other ideas!). Let’s back the ladies all the way, keep up the support and, as always, UP THE PECKERS!
