Woodbridge Town Ladies will hope to finally get 2026 underway as they travel to Ramsey & Mistley Ladies on Sunday. The Peckers have not featured in the league for over 90 days, with postponements ruling out all the winter fixtures - most recently last week against Halesworth Town. Hopefully the weather can stay away this weekend and the Ladies can look to get the season restarted.
With the lack of Premiership action, the most recent fixture for Woodbridge came in the Suffolk FA Women’s Cup, where they fell to a tough 0-4 defeat at home to Halesworth. It was a disappointing result for the Ladies, but with the league title up for grabs as well as a County Cup Semi-Final in March, there are still plenty of opportunities for silverware this campaign. Ramsey & Mistley have had a slightly less interrupted schedule, with their most recent league game seeing them fall to a 2-7 defeat to table toppers AFC Sudbury Reserves. Having only recorded one win this season, the hosts will hope to deliver a better performance this Sunday.
Form feels irrelevant with such a big gap since the Peckers last played a competitive fixture, however Woodbridge will hope that Sadie Jamieson can pick up where she left off having already scored 13 goals in 6 games. Defensively, the Ladies will want to emulate the defensive performances that have seen the Peckers keep 3 clean sheets in 5 league games this campaign. If Ramsey & Mistley are to come away with anything from this fixture, they’ll look to Bethany Schoen to add to her tally of 5 goals for the season.
With the large number of postponed matches, the table doesn’t paint the full picture of the season. Although Woodbridge currently sit fourth, if the Peckers win all their games in hand on the top 3, they would go joint-top of the league. A win for the hosts on Sunday could see them rise as high as 9th, but Ramsey also have played fewer than the sides around them. Both teams will just be hopeful to avoid another postponement and get what should be a very exciting fixture played.
It’s been a frustrating season so far for Woodbridge, as with 15 games still left to play this campaign, the schedule will be tricky towards the end of the season. Hopefully the Ladies can get as many games played as possible, and the winter weather can ease off. I’m sure Peckers fans will have their fingers crossed that this match does go ahead, and Woodbridge can get the title charge back up and running. We appreciate all the support through 2025, and make sure to get behind the Ladies for what could be a very successful end to the season. UP THE PECKERS!
