PREVIEW: Mulbarton Wanderers vs Woodbridge Town

Woodbridge Town look to finally get underway in the new year as they travel to table-toppers, Mulbarton Wanderers. With last week’s trip to Harleston postponed, Saturday will be the first opportunity for the lads to get back to winning ways after a difficult December. That’s easier said than done though, as Mulbarton have been a class above the rest this season - winning 16 out of their 18 games played so far. It’ll be a tough test for the Peckers, but a result is definitely achievable with a strong performance.

The only meeting so far between the two sides this season belongs to Mulbarton, as Woodbridge fell to a dismal 0-5 loss at home. Recent form also doesn’t read well for the Peckers, as the end of 2025 saw only 1 win from 5 in the league, which now sees Woodbridge sat in 14th. As for the hosts, it’s been a very strong campaign, leaving them six points clear at the top of the table with 4 games in hand on second placed Soham Town Rangers. The Wanderers have been very solid defensively this season, and now haven’t conceded in the league since the start of October, which was 9 games ago. The form favours Mulbarton, but Woodbridge will want redemption for the disappointing defeat earlier in the season.

If Woodbridge want to come away with anything from this fixture, being secure at the back is paramount to stopping the Mulbarton Wanderers frontline. Toby Hurst has looked comfortable in net since he joined the club, and could come up big for the Peckers if he’s called into action. Another standout for Woodbridge defensively this season has been Laurie Higgs, who has stepped up to the first team in some style, slotting into the backline seamlessly and becoming a regular starter. It won’t be an easy task to keep Mulbarton’s attack quiet on Saturday, with the hosts netting a staggering 81 goals this season, and only conceding 20. Having the 2nd, 3rd and 5th top goalscorers in the league shows the firepower that Mulbarton possesses, and just how difficult the task to shut them down is for Woodbridge.

Mulbarton go into this one as favourites, but the Peckers will back themselves to take the game to the league leaders. A big win on the road would be a perfect way to start the year, and with the top half only 2 points away, fans should be optimistic that the second half of the season will be very positive for the club. Thank you all for your support throughout a challenging 2025, and keep backing the lads as we move into a new year with new opportunities. UP THE PECKERS!
