PREVIEW: Capel Plough Ladies vs Woodbridge Town Ladies

Woodbridge Town Ladies will hopefully return to action this weekend, as they make the trip to Capel Plough Ladies in the SGWFL Premiership. With postponements wiping out almost the entirety of the winter schedule, the Peckers have only played six league games this season - including one game so far in 2026. Hopefully this weekend will go ahead, and as the weather brightens up, the ladies can begin to complete their jam-packed schedule.

Last weekend was the latest call-off, as a rain-soaked Sunday meant the away trip to AFC Kesgrave didn’t get going. The most recent league fixture for Woodbridge was against Ramsey & Mistley, where the Peckers fell to a 0-3 defeat. With the score level at 0-0 at half time, the effects of 90 days without a game set in throughout the second 45. Capel Plough have endured a difficult start to the new year, facing the top two in the division and falling to heavy defeats; a 7-0 loss away at AFC Sudbury and a 0-4 loss at home to Needham Market. With the hosts out of form and the Peckers lacking match sharpness, three points this weekend would be huge for either side.

It’s been a tough time for Capel Plough, losing eight out of ten fixtures played so far this season. However, Sunday’s hosts have put up some strong performances in those defeats, and if top scorer Paige Bashford can add to her three goals this campaign, Capel could take advantage of Woodbridge’s lack of game time. The Peckers will hope to come back ready and raring to go, and for key players to return to the fine form they were in from the first half of the season. Sadie Jamieson still stands as the leading goalscorer for Woodbridge Town with thirteen in seven games, whilst Freya Emerick and Georgia Lindon will also provide threat going forwards.

With the lack of games played for Woodbridge, the title picture is a hard one to piece together. The Peckers have only played six, Needham Market lead the league having played twelve games, and AFC Sudbury and AFC Kesgrave sit second and third with nine games on the board. It really could be anyone’s crown as we enter the second half of the campaign. A win for the Peckers could see them jump back above AFC Kesgrave, and start to close down the gap to the top of the table. A victory for Capel Plough however would see the hosts climb to 8th in the league.

There’s lots to be excited about for the Ladies as we enter the crunch time of the season, with the league title still in contention and the Suffolk County Cup Semi-final only 2 weeks away. Success is always on the cards with this talented squad of players, so let’s get behind Ashley, Natalie and the team for what could be a special end to the campaign. As always, thank you for your continued support and UP THE PECKERS!
