Woodbridge Town Ladies are on the road this weekend as they make the short trip to Kesgrave to take on AFC Kesgrave Ladies. With the hosts sitting directly above the Peckers in the table, this weekend will be another hurdle for the Ladies to get past as they try to get the title charge back on track. After last weekend’s game against AFC Sudbury Reserves was postponed, Woodbridge will be keen to get back up and running and claim an important victory here.
It wasn’t the return to league action that Woodbridge had hoped for last time out, as 3 second half goals saw the Peckers fall to defeat against Ramsey & Mistley. However, the first half was an even contest at 0-0, and the effect of over 90 days without a league game definitely set in as the match went on. AFC Kesgrave meanwhile booked their place in the Women’s Plate Semi-Finals two weeks ago, and have won four of their last five games in all competitions. This weekend is the first meeting between the two sides this season, and should be an even contest.
The hosts have won three of their five home games so far this campaign, only conceding six goals in those fixtures. Further up the pitch, Kessie’s top scorer Ella Wright will look to add to her tally this season of six goals in ten games. This meeting also sees former Pecker Evie-Jae Laughlin face her former side. The main threat for Woodbridge comes from Sadie Jamieson, who sits as the division’s leading goalscorer. Georgia Lindon will also hope to replicate her Player of the Match performance from the Ramsey & Mistley game.
After the loss two weeks ago, this game feels like a must-win for Woodbridge if they want to challenge AFC Sudbury for the league title. A win for the Peckers would close the gap to 9 points, but with three games in hand, there would be chances to go joint-top in a few weeks time. It would also see them go level with Sunday’s hosts. If AFC Kesgrave take the victory, they would increase the gap back to Woodbridge to six points, and they would put more pressure on the top two.
This second half of the season could be hugely prosperous for the Ladies, and hopefully with your support from the sidelines, Woodbridge can deliver a positive finish to the campaign. Thank you to anyone who makes the trip to Kesgrave this Sunday, we massively appreciate it. The team are raring to go and keen to bounce back from the most recent defeat, so let’s get behind Ashley, Natalie and the team, and as always, UP THE PECKERS!
