The “Road to Wembley” begins this weekend as Woodbridge Town welcome Heacham FC in the Emirates FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round. This will be the Magpies’ fourth visit to the Homestyle UK Ground in the last year, after two abandoned fixtures last season.
It’s been a mixed start to the campaign for the Woodpeckers, with one victory and two losses from the opening three fixtures in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division. Performances have been positive under new manager Liam Scopes though, and the Peckers will hope to bounce back from last Saturday’s 0-2 loss to Downham with a win in the cup this weekend.
Similarly, Heacham will also hope to get their season back on track on Saturday after a difficult start to the league campaign. The Magpies are bottom after a tough run of opening fixtures, losing all three - conceding 15 and scoring 3. Despite this, Heacham are a side with plenty of threats and will be very keen to progress to the next round.

Our FA Cup History
Woodbridge are looking to reach the Preliminary Round for the second year running, after last season’s run saw the Peckers beat Cornard United in a replay before losing 5-2 away at Histon FC.
The furthest the Woodpeckers have ever gone in the FA Cup is the Third Qualifying Round in the 2000/01 season where Woodbridge fell to a 0-2 defeat at home to Hinckley United.
This year presents another opportunity to create memories in such a historic competition. It’s been a few years since the Peckers made it past the Preliminary Rounds, giving an extra incentive to this set of players to do something special - it all starts this weekend.
The winner of this tie will face Felixstowe & Walton United at home in the Preliminary Round.
Previous Meetings
Woodbridge Town and Heacham have become very familiar with each other after last season’s abandonments. The Magpies made three trips to the Homestyle UK Ground last season,after floodlight failure and fog caused the first two games to be called off at half-time.
Despite leading at the interval in both abandoned fixtures, it was Heacham who took a 0-3 victory in the game that did count. The Peckers had beaten Saturday’s visitors 1-3 on the road - showing both sides have the ability to get the better of one another.
The two sides traded wins in the 24/25 and the 23/24 seasons, again demonstrating the competitiveness between the teams. Woodbridge are in better form to start this campaign, and will hope that can make the difference this weekend.
