Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division
Woodbridge Town gained a sixth league win on the trot to clinch a superb second placed final position in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division table in the Bank Holiday Monday local derby. Ben Garnham's penalty just before half time was the difference between the two sides with full back Dale Hammond making his 100th appearance for the Woodpeckers against his former club.
Jack Newman's free kick from 20 yards missed the target for the visitors after 3 minutes and after 5 minutes Jamie Cole's shot was brilliantly saved by home keeper Alfie Stronge and from the rebound Jacob Lay's effort from close range went over the bar. Away Captain Liam Wales' cross after 11 minutes was punched clear by Stronge and after 18 minutes Cole's shot was wells saved by Stronge. Aaron Churchyard's pass after 31 minutes found Mark Ray and his shot was blocked for a corner and Callum Sinclair's shot was well blocked by away defender Stef Mallardo after 35 minutes. Luke Mallett's cross bounced off the crossbar after 41 minutes and after 44 minutes Stronge again denied Cole after the striker was through on goal through with an excellent stop. The Woodpeckers took the lead after Harry Wales foul on Mallett inside the area, Garnham stepped up to send away keeper Lewis Higgins the wrong way with the Penalty Kick.
Ray's shot went wide of the post after 65 minutes and after Sinclair's accurate pass his shot missed the target after 79 minutes. Ray's shot after 83 minutes was met by Sinclair and his effort tested Higgins. Adam Dunnage's header hit the bar after 85 minutes for the visitors and a minute later Carlos Edwards shot missed the target. Jake Rudge's pass after 88 minutes was met by Sinclair and his shot tested Higgins. Garnham's shot was off target an in the last seconds away Substitute Josh Stevens' shot went wide of the post. The Woodpeckers end their season with a trip to Ely City next Saturday.
