Woodbridge 0 v 2 Hadleigh

By Rob Binns

Woodbridge Town suffered a 2-0 defeat to local rivals Hadleigh United despite a spirited performance particularly in the first half.

A second-half thunderbolt from Carlos Edwards was quickly followed by a goal from Josh Folkes to take the points away from the Peckers.

The first opportunity fell to the visitors in the seventh minute when Lloyd Clarke broke forward from right back and let fly from outside the box but his effort was wide.

The Peckers went close just after the half hour mark when Armani Schaar’s high press forced the keeper to gift possession to Callum Harvey 30 yards out with the goal empty but he couldn’t take advantage with his first time strike.

Woodbridge almost took the lead in first half stoppage time when they recycled the ball after a free-kick was initially cleared. Taylor Southgate crossed it in and the ball was nodded down for Daniel Leggett who fired just over.

Hadleigh took the lead in spectacular fashion in the 47th minute as Edwards let fly from around 30 yards out and thundered his effort into the top right corner.

They doubled their advantage five minutes later when Joel Glover crossed for Folkes who ghosted between the defenders to tuck home.

The visitors went close in the 70th minute when Folkes rose highest from a cross and flicked a header goalwards only to be denied by Alfie Stronge at full stretch.

Despite late pressure the Peckers were unable to get back into the game. The lads have an extra week than normal to prepare for their next fixture which a home match with Newmarket Town on Saturday 9th December.
