Mulbarton 2 v 0 Woodbridge

By Rob Binns

Woodbridge Town suffered a 2-0 defeat on the road to promotion-chasing Mulbarton Wanderers.

Goals from Owen Lane and Ashley Jarvis bookended the first half and proved to be enough for the hosts to claim the points.

The Norfolk side took the lead after six minutes when miscommunication at the back meant the Peckers failed to clear Tom Hunter’s low cross which allowed Lane to collect the loose ball and fire home.

The Peckers’ first sight of goal came in the 23rd minute when Callum Harvey found space to drive down the right and crossed for Andrew Crowe but his header went over.

Woodbridge had a similar chance 10 minutes later when Luke Mallett sent a searching ball into the box for Crowe who kept his header low this time but the keeper was equal to it.

The Peckers went close again in the 44th minute when Ryan Keeble’s wide free kick was met by Taylor Southgate whose effort was parried back into danger by the keeper but it proved to be just out of reach of Armani Schaar who was unable to convert the rebound.

Mulbarton scored a minute later, with one of the last kicks of the half, with Jarvis heading home from Tom Baird’s free kick to double their advantage.

The Peckers spurred another chance in the 62nd minute when Kelsey Trotter broke into the box but he was unable to get full control of the ball and slipped as he attempted his shot resulting in a weak effort which was comfortably saved.

Ben Monteith-Weed came off the bench for his Peckers debut after joining the club from Bury Town this month and he almost marked the occasion with a goal when he got on the end of a miss-hit backpass but his effort was tipped wide by the keeper.

A quiet rest of the second half saw no change to the scoreline and condemned the Peckers to another defeat as the difficult run of form continues.
