Captain's Corner

In our third Q&A feature we spoke to the captain of The Reserve Team, Tyler Howell.

Position Centre Midfield

Time at the club? I joined at the start of 2019/20 season

Best moment With Woodbridge Town? Winning the reserve cup final and lifting the trophy.

How are you finding the current lockdown? This has been the toughest lockdown by far, not being able to see the family and the boys from football

What are you missing the most? Turning up at 1:30 on a Saturday afternoon with the boys and getting those 3 points

Do you think the FA, leagues etc. Should make every effort to conclude the season? Most definitely, last season being null and void wasn’t what we wanted with our cup games being cancelled but we got on with it and came back stronger and ready for this season. We had a good pre season and then we made an excellent start to this season. Luckily for us the reserve cup came back in a pivotal part of our season this year and winning it was a massive achievement for us. Sitting 3rd in our league unbeaten is a vast improvement to last season and we have come such a long way. We have about 16 games left of the season that we can easily fit in if they extended the league campaign which we all want becuase we feel this year, with the form we were in, we could potentially achieve success in the league. We completely understand the rules that have been put into place since COVID arrived and we are happy to continue with these if it means we could finish our season.

How have you managed to keep fit during lockdown? I have been going on plenty of long walks with the dog and going on long distance bike rides and now with the fundraiser run coming up

What do you think of the February fundraiser and how will the reserve team get on? I think it was a good idea by Leon, it’s good to give back and not always take things for granted. I think us reserves will do well as we have some athletes in the team

Do you think sports plays a massive part of mental health and well-being? Yes 100% it does. There’s nothing better than seeing the boys on the weekend, sharing the banter and releasing your emotions and working hard on the football pitch.

Have you learnt any new hobbies? My dad's doing a project in our garden that I’ve helped a tiny bit with but not much. He’s mostly done it himself

What’s the best thing you’ve watched on TV, Netflix etc during the lockdowns? At the moment I’m being forced to watch Ackley bridge but it’s not too bad of a series

If you could choose a song to sum up last year, what would it be? I want to break free (Queen)
