Brantham 1 v 1 Woodbridge - 1 v 2 on agg

By Rob Binns

Woodbridge Town earned a solid point on the road with a tight 1-1 draw against Brantham Athletic.

Kyle Furguson opened the scoring in the second half for Brantham before Kelsey Trotter’s late equaliser ensured the spoils were shared.

The hosts had the first chance after six minutes when captain James Lee rose highest to meet a corner and headed towards the far post but Alfie Stronge palmed it away.

That was as good as it got in terms of chances in the first half as the two sides cancelled each other out well resulting in minimal work for either keeper.

The Peckers had a chance to score early in the second half when Evan Bolt sent a delightful ball into the heart of the box from a free kick. Daniel Leggett was the closest to it but it proved just out of reach for him and ended up evading everybody.

Brantham took the lead after 57 minutes when Ferguson was played through over the top with the Peckers calling for offside but the linesman didn’t agree. He allowed the ball to bounce in front of him and fired into the far corner on the half volley.

The hosts went close to a second 10 minutes later when Max Wilcox sent a long throw into the box which was met by Louie Bloom but his header went just wide of the post.

Woodbridge equalised in the 79th minute when Ryan Keeble pressed high to win the ball and slotted through Trotter who cut onto his right, the sending the defender sliding away in the process, and tucked home his third goal in his last three matches.

An aggressive last 10 minutes and stoppage time from both sides soon passed and in the end a draw was the fair result in what was a tight match. Plenty of positives to take into Thetford Town’s visit to Woodbridge on Saturday.
