A sublime solo finish from Mark Ray ensured all three points stayed at Fynn Road on Saturday

The Thurlow Nunn Premier Division season opener, played at either fast pace or frenetic, depending on your allegiance, on a blustery day at the Homestyle UK Stadium, was decided by a hooked effort from Ray which beat the efforts of the Heacham FC goalkeeper to nestle into the top right corner.

The visitors, making their Premier Division debut, had made all the early running and were perhaps unfortunate not to be ahead, when an early goal was disallowed for handball.

However, with Heacham over reliant on a long ball, Woodbridge weathered the storm and gradually began to make their mark on the game, creating chances at the other end and finally giving the home fans something to cheer about, when taking the lead.

Although tested throughout the game, the Woodbridge defence rarely allowed the goal to come under a serious threat and the game meandered its way to a deserved win for the Peckers.

Up next is Brantham , away this Tuesday, with a 7.45pm kick off.
