Having been delayed travelling down from Norfolk, Woodbridge took full advantage & raced out of the traps taking a well-deserved 7th minute lead when Adam Webster & Jack Severy played penetrating passes to set up James Churchill, who was denied by Watton’s keeper, only for SEAN REA to chip the ball over the stranded keeper & into the far corner.
It was no more than Woodbridge had deserved for their bright opening & they continued to create chances with Danny Tatum striking the inside of the post & the visiting keeper forced into regular action. Watton came close with their only goal effort of the 1st half when a near post flick went narrowly wide.
Amazingly, Woodbridge had to wait until shortly before half-time for their ‘inevitable’ 2nd goal when SEAN REA began a move on the halfway line & several 1st time passes later, the same player raced onto James Wright’s astute chip to cleverly lob the keeper.
Rea came within inches of completing his hat-trick when his chip drifted wide & the returning Adam Webster also fired narrowly wide as Woodbridge quickly regained their momentum.
A reverse pass from Rea midway inside the Woodbridge half set up a storming run from full-back by Sam Lewis, who in turn fed JACK SEVERY to fire in Woodbridge’s 3rd goal from the angle.
On the hour Watton pulled a goal back when Carl Widdowson mistimed his tackle in the penalty area & the largely redundant Lewis Rhodes was sent the wrong way from the spot.
A triple substitution breathed fresh life into Woodbridge & one of these replacements, Craig Jennings, became his usual attacking menace setting up fantastic chances for the ‘otherwise outstanding’ Wright & substitute Jonjo Hood-Wright, which were both incredibly missed!
Wright did make amends for his miss by producing yet another sublime pass from midfield into the path of CRAIG JENNINGS & he raced away & cut inside the last defender before chipping the visiting keeper from 25 yards to complete the scoring.
Team: Rhodes, Lewis, Kempson, Wright, Marsh (Fulker 60), Widdowson, Rea, Webster (Hood-Wright 57), Churchill, Tatum, Severy (Jennings 60)
There is now a break from Ridgeons League action until Wednesday 12th December when Framlingham are the visitors, but the Eastern Junior Alliance Under 18s are in action at Hullbridge this coming Sunday.
