Woodbridge Town 5 March Town United 0
Monday 8th October 2007
Woodbridge Town Youth Team progressed to the 3rd Qualifying Round of the F.A Youth Cup after producing an excellent performance, which saw them hammer March Town 5-0.
Sean Rea & David Kempson were passed fit before kick-off & Craig Jennings was available again after suspension so it was a strong team that took to the field, boosted by 1st team front attacker, Ben Seaman. However, Ben Garnham & Carl Widdowson were still absent due to injury & Matt Oxbrow joined the army last week.

It was a lively start from Woodbridge from the moment Seaman headed over in the 1st minute & he was then denied a ‘goal’ when he was harshly adjudged ‘offside’ when converting Luke Read’s pass. It was March who were next to feel aggrieved when they had a ‘clear’ penalty turned down when Ben Hammond tripped a visiting forward. Jack Severy missed a great ‘headed’ opportunity from Jennings cross before Jennings himself blazed over, Read curled a beauty just wide & Kempson tested the keeper from distance as Woodbridge dictated the game.

The breakthrough finally came on 29 minutes when Read intercepted before releasing BEN SEAMAN to race away & he slotted under the keeper. Within 5 minutes Woodbridge had doubled their lead when Jennings turned his defender & was tripped as he burst into the penalty area. SEAN REA did the honours from the spot!
There was little happening at the other end, although March’s Number 10 caused a few moments of panic with his ability on the ball, but generally he was well-handled by a compact defence & hard-working midfield! Severy was inches away from ending his personal goal drought after Kempson’s teasing cross, but Woodbridge took complete control of the game on the stroke of half-time when a free-kick by our own corner flag was worked across the defence & up to Jennings, who turned away from his defender, raced clear & crossed to the far post where BEN SEAMAN showed the composure to cut inside & lash his shot into the roof of the net.

Woodbridge maintained their dominance in the 2nd half but were sloppy in front of goal with Rea & Seaman both guilty of blazing simple chances off target. CRAIG JENNINGS eventually got the goal his performance merited when he received Severy’s pass on the halfway line & once again got the better of the defender & after he had cut inside, his shot carried too much power for the keeper who got his hands to the ball but couldn’t stop it crossing the line.

The introduction of two more attacking substitutes, Danny Tatum & 15 year old, Jordan Seaman, younger brother of Ben, created more havoc & indeed, Tatum saw a controlled volley rebound off the post & then fired another chance over. After several mazy runs from JORDAN SEAMAN he eventually emulated his brother & got on the score-sheet after Severy had played him in. He should have had a 2nd goal when Webster set him up but this time the shot was wide!

Finally, after having nothing but routine work to do all evening, Tom Ross earned some plaudits with an acrobatic save when an injury time free-kick was volleyed goal-wards from close range, but all in all this was as comprehensive victory as anybody dared to imagine & 5-0 actually didn’t do the quality of Woodbridge’s play total justice!

Team: Ross, Nichols, Kempson (Tatum 61), Rea (Wright 64), Hammond, Marsh, Read, Webster, Ben Seaman, Jennings (Jordan Seaman 68) & Severy. Unused Substitutes: Salisbury & Rhodes.
