A 53rd minute strike from Mo Rahman, his first ever goal in the Ridgeons League, was enough to give Woodbridge a narrow victory over Framlingham on Thursday & lift them off the bottom of the league.

Despite dominating for the majority of the game & creating more than 20 goal-scoring chances, the visitors were forced to hang on throughout a nervous 10 minutes of injury time when the home team threw caution to the wind.

The 1st half was an open affair with Lewis Rhodes tested from distance in the early minutes & he was later forced into diving at a striker’s feet to prevent one scoring chance & after spilling a cross he managed to grab hold of a loose ball among bodies to keep Framlingham at bay once more. Grant Salisbury was also a saviour as he made a fantastic last-gasp tackle after a Framlingham counter-attack, but overall it was Woodbridge who created the majority of the chances. Jack Severy & Adam Webster went particularly close while Danny Tatum, Craig Jennings & Mo Rahman all worked the keeper. Jennings also had the ball in the net but was offside in doing so!

MO RAHMAN missed a glorious chance to give Woodbridge the lead in the opening moments of the half when he headed Webster’s cross wide, but he was more accurate on 53 minutes when he converted with his left foot after Tatum had tricked his way into the penalty area & teed him up perfectly.
Tatum then missed a similarly simple chance & this became the story of the next half an hour as numerous chances were created & missed – Severy hit the keeper from close range & had a drive cleared off the line, Jennings tested the keeper from good positions on 4 occasions, substitute Jordan Seaman was denied by the keeper on 3 further occasions & fellow Under 16 substitutes Steve O’Neill & Jack Garnham also went close, the latter smashing the bar from 35 yards.

Despite Woodbridge’s dominance, the lead remained at 1-0 & towards the end Framlingham managed to push Woodbridge back & came close to scoring with three heading opportunities, one of which was cleared of the line by the impressive Salisbury. In an incredible 10 minutes of injury time, Framlingham peppered the Woodbridge defence with free-kicks & balls into the box, but the chances were kept to a minimum & indeed it was Woodbridge who came closest to scoring again as Severy raced away & this time he rattled the Framlingham crossbar!

Team: Rhodes, Lewis (Garnham 62), Sturman, Wright, Nichols, Salisbury, Rahman (Seaman 62), Webster (O’Neill 62), Jennings, Tatum & Severy.

It is back to FA Youth Cup action next Thursday when we travel to Debenham for the 3rd Qualifying Round.
