Thursday 22nd November 2007
Woodbridge Town Under 18s racked up their 3rd straight Ridgeons League victory to move into the top half of the table having scored a 90th minute winning goal after throwing away a 2-0 lead.
.
From the 1st minute, Woodbridge took the game to the hosts with Craig Jennings & Pete Richardson going within a whisker of scoring while Stefan Marsh couldn’t quite connect at a corner. It was PETE RICHARDSON who gave the visitors a 20th minutes lead with a typically composed finish from Sean Rea’s defence-splitting pass. Several more chances followed with Jennings & Jack Severy going the closest while James Churchill missed the easiest opportunity of the game.

Throughout the half, Bungay had not once threatened the Woodbridge goal, but Lewis Rhodes spilled a long-range shot on the stroke of half-time but Carl Widdowson tidied up.

The 2nd half continued in the same manner with CRAIG JENNINGS missing another glorious chance before he controversially put Woodbridge 2-0 ahead when he finally converted Rea’s teasing cross, although he appeared to use his hand to control the ball before putting it away.
Bungay’s first real attempt at goal arrived on 64 minutes with a volley drifting just beyond the post, but within a few minutes they received a lifeline in the form of a penalty, harshly-awarded for a supposed foul by Mo Rahman. Rhodes was sent the wrong way from the spot & what followed was Woodbridge players being flustered by the decision & the goal while Bungay thrived on the new lease of life & promptly created a well-worked equalizer on 72 minutes.

The game had turned full circle & Bungay became the better team but couldn’t create a clear chance while Woodbridge threats were on the counter-attack, but Jennings & 15 year old substitute, Jordan Seaman both missed with only the keeper to beat. However, just when Woodbridge were cursing the loss of two points, Danny tatum sent CRAIG JENNINGS through for another 1v1 chance with the Bungay keeper & this time he found the net. He should have completed his hat-trick a moment later but was denied by the keeper & it was Woodbridge players who were left thanking their keeper when Rhodes made his only ‘real’ save of the game deep into injury time, deflecting a close-range effort agonizingly close to his post.

Overall, Woodbridge made ridiculously hard work of securing a win that seemed inevitable for the opening 65 minutes, but once again lot of our passing play was of a good standard, but was only witnessed by 1 travelling supporter – thank you Mr. Severy (at least you didn’t miss a great deal by choosing England over Woodbridge!

Team: Rhodes, Lewis, Severy, Wright, Widdowson (Ambrose 66) Marsh, Rea, Tatum, Jennings, Churchill (J Seaman 62) & Richardson (Rahman 31)
