Woodbridge Town 1 Wivenhoe Town 2
Sunday 14th October 2007
Having cancelled their previous fixture due to a lack of fit bodies, Woodbridge Town’s Sunday Under 18 team returned to action this weekend, but despite holding a slender lead at half-time, they eventually lost at home to Wivenhoe Town.
Sam Lewis, Mehmet Duzgun & Jonjo Hood-Wright all returned from injury, while the substitutes bench was made up with Under 16s Ashley Holmes & Jack Lawrence.

Woodbridge were slightly the better side in the 1st half, having enjoyed the bulk of the possession with JAMES WRIGHT giving them a 38th minute lead with a controlled volley from the edge of the penalty area following a half-cleared corner. The visiting keeper was then forced into fine saves to deny James Crick & Sam Lewis.
Lewis Rhodes, standing in for ‘fisherman’ Nathan Allinson clawed one header out from under his crossbar & also had to make a terrific reflex save.

After a drab start to the 2nd half, Wivenhoe rescued a loose ball by their own corner flag & within seconds had penetrated the Woodbridge defence to carve out a 52nd minute equalizer.
There were chances at either end to claim all three points with Hutton heading Woodbridge’s clearest chance wide & Lawrence firing over when well-placed, but there were warnings at the other end with Crick, Salisbury & Rhodes saving certain goals before James Fulker conceded an 89th minute penalty, which was gleefully despatched for the winning goal, earning Wivenhoe maximum points!

James Wright was comfortably the most impressive performer in a black & white shirt & fully deserved to register his 1st ever goal for the club, while Lewis Rhodes also enjoyed a particularly good game!

Team: Rhodes, Fulker, Hood-Wright, Wright, Salisbury, Lewis (Holmes 58), Duzgun (Secco 67), Mayhew (Lawrence 67), Crick, Tatum & Hutton
