First defeat for Under 18's at Tiptree United
Sunday 16th September 2007
Tiptree United 3 Woodbridge Town 2
Woodbridge Town’s Alliance Under 18 team suffered their 1st defeat of the season on Sunday, going down 3-2 in Essex to Tiptree.
It was the visitors who opened the scoring when MILES POWELL when a neat through ball from James Crick gave the opportunity for Powell to neatly volley the ball past the keeper. In all fairness the quality of Woodbridge’s football was not of the standard that defeated Newmarket the previous Sunday. There were too many long balls & players getting caught in possession as the game lacked fluency, although the best move of the entire game ended when Josh Mayhew struck the post.

By half-time Tiptree, who themselves had enjoyed a number of threatening moments, had turned the 0-1 deficit into a 2-1 advantage as they stepped up their game while Woodbridge players were guilty of ‘taking feet off the pedals’! The equalizer came about when Woodbridge were a little slack tracking players and the Tiptree midfielder burst into the box to slide the ball past the oncoming Allinson. Tiptree then took the lead when once again Woodbridge were guilty of not communicating and allowing the opposition’s right winger to reach the by-line before squaring the ball for an easy finish.

The 2nd half began with Tiptree extending their lead with a clinical finish after a good move, which provided their striker the opportunity for score his second goal of the game. Woodbridge responded to give a much-improved performance and almost got back in the game with a wonderful strike from Daniel Tatum from the best part of 25 yards, which the goalkeeper did well to tip over the crossbar. MILES POWELL did reduce the arrears when a good move ended with Powell going through one on one and neatly lifting the ball over the goalkeeper. With 20 minutes remaining Woodbridge began to dominate the game with their more determination off the ball and good quality passing. With the introduction of Ben Hutton, Woodbridge then went on to create further chances, the best of which fell to Hutton when after a powerful run into the box his shot was well stopped by the Tiptree goalkeeper. Unfortunately none of these chances could be taken & time eventually ran out!

Team: Allinson, Fulker, Kempson (Hutton), Wright (Duzgun), Salisbury, Lewis, Crick, Powell, Mayhew (Secco), Tatum & Hood-Wright

Next week, Woodbridge travel to Essex once again to face Stanway Rovers.
