Woodbridge Town 3 Debenham LC 3
Sunday 04 November 2007
With a full compliment of three substitute for a change & no last minute hitches, Woodbridge ended their Eastern Junior Alliance losing streak, but left the field frustrated that despite being in the lead on three different occasions, Debenham pegged them back each time to share the spoils.

GRANT SALISBURY scored his first goal of the season when he converted an 11th minute penalty after Jack Severy had been tripped & Woodbridge came agonizingly close to increasing the lead when Craig Jennings headed against the post.

Debenham equalized when a well-timed run pierced Woodbridge ’s offside appeals, but were denied a penalty a few minutes later & within 10 seconds CRAIG JENNINGS had planted the ball in their net after a typically strong run to rub salt in the visitors’ wounds.

Debenham’s second equalizer followed within 5 minutes as a half-cleared set-piece fell to the goal-scorer who showed clever feet before firing beyond Nathan Allinson. It was Debenham’s turn to curse the woodwork shortly before half-time when a free-kick rebounded down off the crossbar with Allinson beaten.

Woodbridge took the lead again early in the 2nd half as Danny Tatum showed great composure to round the keeper & gift substitute BEN HUTTON a tap-in at the far post. However, Debenham levelled the scores again when a perfectly weighted diagonal pass sent the left-sided attacker through & he shot across Allinson from the angle.

Allinson & Kempson rescued a similar effort minutes later by scrambling the ball off the line, but it was the home side who threatened most to score the next goal as Churchill fired inches wide, Hutton also went off target, Severy tested the keeper with a stinging drive & Mayhew forced him into a fine tip-over at the end of a solo run. It wasn’t only the visitor’s keeper who kept Woodbridge attacks at bay as the visiting linesman halted a few with his flag!!!

In the end it was Debenham who could have grabbed the winning goal as Allinson blocked a late effort with his feet & a an injury-time header sailed over his bar.

Team: Alinson, Fulker (Hutton 45), Hood-Wright, Wright (Duzgun 76), Salisbury , Kempson, Crick, Tatum, Jennings (Mayhew 60), Churchill & Severy

Next Sunday, Woodbridge host Bury Town at 2pm, but befor ethen the ‘midweek’ Under 18s travel to Borehamwood on Friday as they seek to progress to the 2nd Round ‘proper’ of the FA Youth Cup & potentially host Swansea City?
