Great Yarmouth 0-0 Woodbridge
Woodbridge won 3-1 on penalties
Woodbridge travelled to Yarmouth for the quarter
final of the Suffolk Open Cup and ended Yarmouth's
cup run again for the second year running at this
stage. The opening half did see Woodbridge have the
greater of chances at goal on strikes early in the
match, Jamie Smith hit top corner of the post. Ben
Hunter fired a late chance just over the bar late in
the half.
Second half and Woodbridge got off to a slow start
and let Yarmouth look dangerous at times, but after
ten minutes Woodbridge got back on track and started
playing well again. A busy half for both sides but
Woodbridge's back four and keeper Stephen Seabrook
worked well together when Yarmouth pushed forward.
When Woodbridge broke forward Thomas Spurling and
Issac Warren on the wing both caused problem for
Yarmouth with their speed. Smith had a good effort
saved a volley five minutes from time. With the game
now in extra time Woodbridge really pushed to break
the dead lock and attacked well in the first half of
extra time and came close to scoring when a Lewis
Cowie effort hit the cross bar. The last ten minutes
and the match could still have gone either way but
Woodbridge played out these last minutes well.
Callum Scott and Tyler Howell both played well in
midfield throughout the match with support from Liam
Brunning. As did Teddy Cooper, George Exworth, Mason
Ransome, Harrison Rodgers and Lewis Jimpson all
playing in defence. In the end after penaltys the
result was the right one with Woodbridge winning 3-1
on penalties. Woodbridge scorers were Lewis Cowie,
Mason Ransome and Jamie Smith.

Tesco Cup Qtr final
Cup progress was made by Woodbridge Town Youths
U13's as they saw off St John's in the Tesco Cup but
only after penalties.
The opening half of the match was mainly played in
the centre of the pitch with neither of the keepers
being troubled.
Second half much the same as the first but on a
break by St. John's Woodbridge gave away a free kick
on the edge of the 18 yard box allowing St. John's
to score fifteen minutes into the half. Five mintues
later and at the other end of the pitch Woodbridge
won a penalty allowing Lewis Jimpson to finish and
level up. Both teams battled on and with fifteen
minutes still on the clock Woodbridge won another
penalty only to be struck wide by Jimpson. With the
full time score finishing 1-1 and after extra time
still no winner the game went to penalties.
Woodbridge won 4-3. Scorers Lewis Cowie, Mason
Ransome, Oli Dunlop and George Exworth.
Tesco Cup 30/10/11
C.F.C Bury 2- 3 Woodbridge Town
Woodbridge Town travelled to Bury for the second
round of the Tesco Cup and enjoyed a good encounter
of football against C.F.C.Bury. Woodbridge went down
a goal within five minutes but after working hard
during the opening half and coping well with the
long balls from C.F.C, Woodbridge managed to level
the scoring just before the break when a break by
Woodbridge saw Liam Brunning have his shot saved by
the C.F.C keeper but this allowed Jamie Smith to
finish the ball.
Woodbridge started off better in the second half
putting more pressure on the C.F.C defence looking
for another goal. The second half was much the same
as the first with play pretty much even, but after
about ten minutes and from a Woodbridge corner
Harrison Rogers headed home Woodbridge's second and
who put in a great performance at the back. As well
as Lewis Jimpson and George Exworth both working
well together. Smith came close to adding another
with two efforts going wide in quick succession, but
straight away with a good kick and the long ball
booted up the pitch C.F.C equalised with another
good finish. twenty minutes into the second half but
with fifteen minutes to go the match could go any
way but it was Woodbridge persistence and fitness
that won them the match when C.F.C failed to clear a
late Woodbridge corner allowing Lewis Cowie to score
with a great strike from the edge of the box sending
Woodbridge into the next round.
Woodbridge Town 3-0
St Johns 16/10/11
Woodbridge Town put
in another excellent all round team performance as
thet saw off visiting side St Johns in this Sunday
morning fixture. From the kick off the game from
start to finish was played at a fast moving pace.
There was plenty of midfield action and the chances
at goal were all Woodbridge. Woodbridge got their
break 25 minutes into the match through Jamie Smith
after some good build up play from the Woodbridge
side. Ben Hunter came close with a second for
Woodbridge but the upright saved his shot. Heading
into the last five minutes Thomas Spurling on
another Woodbridge attack put the home side two up
going into the break. Second half and Woodbridge
again had a busy half as again the pace was quick.
St Johns fought hard throughout not giving up but
with Woodbridge's strong defence, St Johns rarely
got a chance at goal. Smith with his second of the
match and Woodbridge's third came early in the half.
Mason Ransome saw an effort from distance go just
wide as well as Lewis Cowie late in the match.
Woodbridge finished deserved winners.
Chantry
Grasshoppers 1-3 Woodbridge Town U13's
Tesco Cup: 09/10 11
Woodbridge Town got off to a cracking start in the
first round of the Tesco Cup. In the fourth minute
of the opening half, Woodbridge went one up after
some good team work, a good ball from Callum Scott
allowed Liam Brunning to finish neatly. Chantry
battled back and at a time were quick on the break
but Woodbridge defended well and battled. Woodbridge
went in at half time with a comfortable 3-0 lead
after Oliver Dunlop and Tyler Howell scored with
good finishes.
Second half and Chantry came out stronger and closed
down Woodbridge as they attacked looking for another
goal. Woodbridge saw a few efforts come close but
were unable to score. Chantry pulled a good goal
back in the final minute of play but it was
Woodbridge who finished on top.
Whitton 0-4 Woodbridge Town U13's
League Game: 02/10/11
Woodbridge Town enjoyed a good encounter of football
away to Whitton in this Sunday league fixture.
Woodbridge were on top within three minutes of the
kick off when Jamie Smith broke free and finished
neatly past the Whitton keeper. Whitton battled back
but Woodbridge's defence proved too strong not
allowing them to break through leaving Woodbridge to
go into the break one nil up.
Second half and within seven minutes of the restart
Woodbridge added another two to the score from
Oliver Dunlop and Smith who went on to complete his
hat-rick later in the half making Woodbridge finish
as well deserved winners. |
