Reserves win all four pre season friendlies

Most of the Reserve Team players have been involved in the 1st team training sessions & fixtures throughout pre-season & due to the club’s philosophy of promoting youth, the squad has been made up of Under 19s, with the only exception being the new ‘Assistant Manager’, Andy Lawrence, who has been used in ‘emergencies!!!
The Reserves opened their fixture programme against SIL Premier Division team, Ransomes, where they earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory, courtesy of a late penalty from the ‘afore-mentioned’ ‘Player-Coach’, emergency substitute & ‘40 something’, Andy Lawrence! He actually made amends for deflecting in Ransomes equalizer minutes earlier after Craig Jennings had given Woodbridge the lead.

An even younger reserve team came from a goal behind against Grundisburgh Reserves to produce a very impressive performance in winning 3-1. Jack Severy grabbed two of the goals & 15 year old, Jack Lawrence scored the other, while Andy Nugent, another Under 16 player, also came on to make a very promising reserve team debut.

When the Reserves’ took on BT Trimley, Liam Hillyard was the oldest player in the team at the grand old age of 18, & it was he who gave us the lead with a blistering shot. Two great efforts from Matt Oxbrow put us firmly in the driving seat before Craig Jennings & Ben Hutton rounded off another excellent performance with our 4th & 5th goals, while the defence gave absolutely nothing away.

The pre-season fixture programme was wrapped up with the short trip to Coplestonians, where their 2nd team had no answer to the speed & quality of our attacking play in the opening 30 minutes as Jack Severy & Craig Jennings each added two more goals to their pre-season tallies while Luke Read was also on target. It wasn’t all one-way traffic though as the hosts netted twice themselves!
Having been so impressive throughout the previous three & a half matches, it was surprising & disappointing that the standard of our play dropped so dramatically after half-time & a painful 45 minutes of frustration, silly fouls & countless losses of possession had to be endured with Ben Hutton claiming the only goal of the half!
