Although the final score in this
SSRC Cup game finished 4-2, this was another
entertaining and tense game.
Woodbridge started the game well,
taking the game to F&W on a hard and bumpy
surface that looked like it had not seen water
for 2 months !
The quick pressure paid off in as little as
3mins, when Churchill latched onto a through
ball to take wide right and supply a fine cross
for on running Baillie to slot home.
F&W to their credit, knuckled down and began to
win possession in the midfield area and supply
their quick wide players. Despite seemingly
constant pressure from F&W they could not find
the finishing touch, but with Woodbridge on the
back foot, Woodbridge through Mayhew, collected
in midfield to provide a through ball for
Churchill who calmly finished past the on
rushing F&W keeper for 2-0 on 20mins.
F&W continued to work and press hard, and were
rewarded with goal on 30mins from a corner when
the Woodbridge defence failed to pick up their
markers.
With the 2-1 scoreline, F&W continued to press
Woodbridge hard, and won possession in midfield
to supply their striker to run free and slot the
ball home for 2-2 on 40mins.
With a few Tactical changes at half time,
Woodbridge started to win more possession in
midfield and started to look threatening going
forward again, but on 70mins, Nicklin was very
unfortunate to receive a straight red and had to
walk.
This gave F&W the momentum to push forward and
on 75mins, Woodbridge lost possession at the
back which resulted in some quick thinking by
the F&W player to lob keeper Ellis fro 20yrds
for a 3-2 lead.
Woodbridge changed their shape to try and still
press for an equaliser despite being down to 10
men, but F&W had their tails up and plied
constant pressure on the Woodbridge goal which
resulted in some great goal keeping from Ellis
to keep Woodbridge in the hunt.
On 80mins, Woodbridge pushing forward for the
equaliser, were caught in possession and F&W
broke forward quickly, and their forward slotted
home for a final score of 4-2.
