Severy & Jennings were denied further opportunities by last gasp tackles by the impressive Thetford No5, while Tatum had a curling free-kick headed over the bar from close range by the same defender. Ben Garnham, Liam Hillyard & Ismael Toumi were all narrowly off target with other efforts, while at the other end, 16 year old goalkeeper, Nathan Allison, who was making his debut, but was largely a spectator.

Thetford got much closer to Woodbridge from the beginning of the 2nd half, but in doing so conceded a number of fouls & it was one such foul that led to a quickly taken free-kick from which Severy burst into the area only to be tripped. JACK SEVERY himself stepped up to convert the penalty.

At this stage it looked likely that Woodbridge would run away with the victory as Liam Hillyard, Jennings & Garnham all went close to finding the net again, but Thetford received a lifeline with 20 minutes remaining when Stefan Marsh conceded a penalty & Allison was sent the wrong way. Immediately, Allison made his one real save of the game when he superbly palmed away a snapshot.

However, any threat of a Thetford comeback was thwarted when Woodbridge regained control of the game with simple passing of the ball & it was at the end of one such piece of play which contained 10-15 passes that Ted Nichols crossed to the far post for LIAM HILLYARD to head home & restore the 2 goal lead.

The result was now beyond doubt, although Woodbridge did threaten to extend the lead through Toumi, Hillyard & Josh Mayhew & before the end Thetford’s frustration resulted in one of their players receiving his 2nd yellow card, leaving them to finish the game with 10 men.
