Despite dominating the
possession & territory throughout the 1st half,
the home team incredibly went in a goal behind,
courtesy of a goal on 30 minutes following a
free-kick, which saw Woodbridge defenders
hesitate in comparison to the Stowmarket player,
who impressively smashed the ball past Tom Ross.
Despite the neat & tidy passing from Woodbridge
the visiting keeper only had one save to make as
he blocked Jennings low shot & a defender
cleared the ball off the line. A few other
chances fell Woodbridge’s way, but Carl
Widdowson & Grant Monaghan were denied by great
blocks, while Jack Severy blazed over from close
range.
The 2nd half followed much the same path
although the home team did have a let-off when a
mix-up between Arran Sheppard & Tom Ross saw the
ball fall to a Stowmarket player some 40+ yards
from an open goal, but the resulting shot rolled
just outside the post.
However, the pressure built on Stowmarket’s
defence & finally on 68 minutes, Woodbridge
levelled the score. Ismael Toumi, who had only
just been moved to right back tricked his way
into the area, ‘nutmegged’ his man & squared for
CRAIG JENNINGS to find the back of the net. The
same two players combined 5 minutes later as
Toumi created space to clip in an inviting cross
& the head of CRAIG JENNINGS did the rest.
The Stowmarket keeper pulled off a fantastic
save to deny Josh Mayhew a goal, but the victory
was ensured with 6 minutes remaining when
Monaghan & David Kempson combined down the left
wing & the latter unselfishly squared to the far
post where CRAIG JENNINGS gleefully tapped the
ball in for his hat-trick.
Team: Ross, Sheppard, Widdowson (Kempson 61),
Baalham, Monaghan, Rea (Tatum 45), Toumi,
Garnham, Hillyard, Severy (Mayhew 45) &
Jennings.
