FA Cup 2nd Qualifying – Home v West Lynn

Team: Scott, Taylor, Whittingstall, Rolfe, McKew (Woolnough 80mins), Lloyd, Steed, Leckie, Yarnton (Jones 73mins), Roach, Hadley
Unused Sub – Parker

We had Kate Steed, Sami Jones and Steph Lloyd available again but Sarah Lloyd and Sophie Barham were missing due to last week’s injuries. Sarah was out with sore shins but Sophie is still waiting to hear about her injury. Sophie faces the possibility of cruciate ligament damage although at this time it could also be cartilage damage.

We had played Lynn a few weeks ago in the league with the result being 4-0 in our favour. It must be said that Lynn came with only ten players, went down eventually to nine and were reduced to eight players for a short period. This week they had the luxury of a full compliment plus the bonus of one substitute. The game began with us dominating the play and having the bulk of possession. This was to be the pattern for the whole of the first half. Perhaps the only down side to this was we went in at the break with a slender one goal advantage. Our solitary goal was the result of some slick passing and good movement involving several players. The conclusion to this passage of play was a lovely pass into Charlie Roach’s feet and Charlie rolling her marker to drill the ball past the keeper giving her no chance of saving it.

Half-Time 1-0

The second half started much as the first had started with us controlling and dominating play. This pattern was to continue for the remainder of the match. We managed to add a further two goals during this period. Jemma Yarnton was to extend our lead following the award of a free kick on the edge of their box. Jemma placed the ball and proceeded to drill/pass the ball into the far corner of the goal with the keeper rooted to the spot. If Jem had not shaved her legs plus let a shadow grow with stubble and with the number eleven on her back you would have been forgiven for thinking that Ryan Giggs had actually taken the kick. I think what I am trying to say is it was a good free kick! Our third and final goal was another trademark finish by Charlie Roach. Again another good ball into Charlie’s feet allowed her to hold off her defender and gain a yard before drilling the ball past the keeper. The game finished on a sad note with an ambulance having to come onto the pitch with a Lynn defender not able to move and in extreme pain.

Full-Time 3-0 (Roach 2, Yarnton)

I can let you know that the injured Lynn player attended hospital and thankfully nothing was broken. All of us at wtlfc hope that she is ok to play again next week.
