Woodbridge Town 1 Stanway Rovers 4 |

Another disastrous second half
start puts Woodbridge out of the game. |
|
Three goals in the opening twelve
minutes of the second half from visitors Stanway
Rovers undone a hard earned first half lead for
the Woodpeckers. League top scorer Sam Newson
gave an early warning of his threat heading
across the Woodbridge goal whilst his striking
partner and brother Ben Newson mis-hit his first
time shot wide of the post. Woodbridge did put
two efforts on target but the attempts by Liam
Scopes and Glenn Snell both lacked sufficient
power. Three dangerous inswinging Stanway corner
kicks caused problems for Woodbridge, the first
two going uncomfortably across the face of goal
before Town keeper Lewis Rhodes got a fist on
the third to clear. With 5 minutes of the half
remaining Ben Goddard was foiled by Stanway
keeper Michael Church who tipped his shot wide
for a corner which Ben Seaman delivered for
Scopes to put Town one up with a header.
With barely a minute played of the second half,
Sam Newson lobbed over the advancing Rhodes to
level the score and a minute later he gave the
visitors the lead getting in front of Rhodes to
head in from eight yards. Woodbridge had made
three very speculative penalty appeals in the
opening half but a more reasonable shout was
denied when Goddard appeared to be pushed in the
back after getting in front of his defender
moments later. Stanway then again took advantage
of Rhodes' appearance in 'no man's land', Liam
Bailey spotted the town keeper well off his line
again and scored from fully 45 yards out. On 76
minutes Newson put the result beyond any doubt
completing his fourth hat trick of the season.
