Woodbridge Town 4 Desborough Town 0 |
| Saturday 19th September 2009 |
|
|
A competitive match had been
anticipated with both teams identically placed
in their respective leagues, but Woodbridge
brushed aside their United Counties League
counterparts with some ease, scoring twice in
each half. |
|
Tom Trevivian delivered a 15th minute free kick
for Jay Churchyard to head in, clashing heads
with a defender in the process, which as a
consequence necessitated his replacement at half
time.
Desborough responded with a brief resurgance and
Chris Pratt made a timely challenge to thwart
the advance of striker Ian Blaikie and Town
keeper Adam Wilson was called into action for
the only time of the match to push wide a 25
yard drive from the visitor's Grzegorz Danek.
Town increased their lead on 35 minutes, Tom
Trevivian's unconvincing penalty kick bobbling
under the body of the Desborough keeper who must
have been disappointed in not having made a
save.
Churchyard's replacement Ben Goddard raced
through to chip the keeper for the Woodbridge
third on 65 minutes and three minutes later
Marcus Josiah's impressive performance was
rewarded with a goal as he capitalised on a poor
Desborough defensive square pass to side foot
wide of the advancing keeper.
