Town crash to a heavy defeat at
Dereham |
|
The Woodpeckers conceded six goals for the
fourth time in four months with the Magpies
scoring three in each half. Town keeper Adam
Wilson blocked Nick Howell's sixth minute shot
shot but Oliver Willis was on hand to tap in the
rebound. His fellow full back Dan Buhleman
doubled the Magpies lead on 21 minutes with a
speculative shot from 25 yards that sailed over
the Woodbridge back four and just under the
crossbar. Josh Mayhew had two goal attempts, the
first hit straight at Dereham keeper John Higgs
and a better second attempt saw his curling
effort fly just over. Howell's dangerous cross
minutes later was well cleared by a header from
Woodbridge skipper Aaron Churchyard falling
perfectly for Dan Beaumont to return with a
volley onto the crossbar from 20 yards. A minute
before half time Stuart Williams sent in a well
placed corner kick to the far post which dropped
to the feet of Adam Gusterson to prod over the
line.
Woodbridge fell further behind five minutes into
the second half, Stuart Williams heading in a
corner kick. Despite the scoreline, Woodbridge
were putting together some well constructed
moves, Churchyard charged forward through the
Dereham midfield but the ball was eventually
cleared to Willis who on the counter attack sped
down the right wing crossing for Adam Smith to
sidefoot over Wilson. Woodbridge finally got on
the scoresheet themselves five minutes from time
when a slip in the Dereham defence let in Marcus
Josiah to sidefoot past Higgs, but with a minute
remaining of normal time Woodbridge conceded a
sixth, the third in the match from a corner kick
which was flicked in by substitute Kenny Reeves.
In stoppage time Robbie Smythe converted a
penalty kick to complete the afternoon's
scoring.
