This extra preliminary round tie was moved to the Friday night because a wedding function had been booked at Notcutt's Park on the Saturday afternoon, and the good-sized crowd were rewarded with an emphatic Woodbridge win.

Besides centre-back Roper notching a hat-trick - the first in this season's FA Cup? - Allicion Blake and Jon Bickers were also on target, with three of the goals coming in the final eight minutes.

With Tony Boto injured in Tuesday night's win against Walsham, Lee O'Neill took his place up front. Jon Bickers was preferred to Ben Garnham in midfield, with Arran Sheppard restored to right back, while Paul Berry was fit enough to take his place on the bench.

Paul Hart's downward header was saved by Nick Banham in the sixth minute before Bickers saw his dipping volley just clear the bar a minute later, and then O'Neill's dangerous low cross was cut out by a defender with Woodbridge players waiting to pounce.

The home team went ahead in the 10th minute when a Ben Seaman corner was only cleared as far as Jamie Scales who returned it to Seaman on the right and his low cross reached the unmarked Roper at the back post. He had time and space to control the bouncing ball before firing beneath Banham.

There was a scare for Woodbridge in the 16th minute, when Grant Monaghan's misplaced pass across his own goal was picked up by Liam Bartley but he lobbed the ball just over the bar. Twenty minutes later Bickers was guilty of a similar mistake and this time Bartley dragged his shot well wide.

Woodbridge were getting caught in the visitors' offside trap but came close to a second goal when Seaman's cross saw Roper head goalwards and O'Neill nearly scrambled the ball home but was thwarted by Banham. There was almost an action replay a minute later, but again Banham kept out O'Neill's close-range effort to bring the half to a close.

Woodbridge started the second period brightly, with Bickers and Hart playing a one-two and Bickers finding Seaman who cut in from the right and forced a good save from Banham down at his near post.

The reprieve for the visitors was shortlived as Seaman's corner was headed out straight at Roper and, with Yarmouth appealing in vain for handball as the ball hit him, Roper dispatched his shot into the bottom corner.

Jacob Short volleyed over for the visitors who then made a double substitution before Bickers, Seaman and Hart combined for the latter to fire in a shot that Banham parried behind for a corner.

On the hour Woodbridge introduced Ben Garnham and Berry, who was making his first appearance since sustaining a back injury in the pre-season friendly at Grundisburgh on August 4th, for Sheppard and O'Neill.

Berry saw an effort deflected wide in the 77th minute before Luke Read replaced Seaman, who had again impressed on both flanks, three minutes later.

It was Read who started the move that led to Woodbridge putting the result beyond doubt in the 82nd minute. He fed Hart who flicked the ball into the path of Ben Garnham and his through ball put Blake in the clear to round Banham before knocking home into an empty net. Although Woodbridge had continued to fall foul of Yarmouth's offside trap, they added two more goals before the end with Berry at the centre of both moves.

Ben Garnham found Berry in space wide on the right and he squared for the onrushing Bickers to place his shot clamly just inside the far post. Berry then held off one defender before being chopped down by Will Lewis as he cut across the box.

Roper stepped forward to send Banham the wrong way from the resultant penalty kick in the last minute of normal time to wrap up an emphatic victory.
