| Woodbridge travelled to Leiston
for the annual festive derby match and came away with a very satisfying 3-1 victory.
Despite going behind, Woodbridge
showed good character and responded immediately with Lee O’Neill side-stepping the Leiston keeper to slide home the equaliser.
Woodbridge then took the lead midway through the half with Craig Jennings
being released over the top and he calmly and
impressively lobbed the ball over Jamie Stannard. Leiston responded strongly but some good defending and some sound keeping from
Marcus Garnham kept them at bay.
Woodbridge dominated for the
early stages of the second half and pulled further ahead when some good build-up play was finished by O’Neill for his second of the game. Further chances went astray
mainly due to some fine work by home custodian
Stannard as Woodbridge finished the stronger with Jennings having a good strike stopped low at the foot of the post and Foster’s good header being palmed away and before the end Josh Mayhew’s recent good form in the reserves was rewarded with a
ten minute cameo for his debut at this level.
