Saturday 4th August 2007
Grundisburgh 2 Woodbridge Town 5
THREE goals in a 15-minute first-half spell put Woodbridge on course for a third successive pre-season success.
Grundisburgh, the reigning SIL champions, started impressively in front of a good-sized crowd before their near neighbours took control of the match.
Woodbridge’s free-flowing passing saw them carve the home defence wide open for Ben Seaman to finish emphatically after 15 minutes and three minutes later Paul Hart swept home at the near post after a lovely one-two between Seaman and Tony Boto.
Aaron Churchyard slotted home the third on the half hour before Grundisburgh twice went close to reducing the deficit. Lee Grimwood twisted and turned defenders before striking the inside of the post with Marcus Garnham beaten and then David Grimwood saw his shot cleared off the line by Aaran Sheppard.
Three minutes into the second period Luke Read, one of four half-time substitutes, curled home the fourth from the edge of the area past substitute keeper and former Woodbridge team-mate Tom Ross.
A defensive mix-up allowed David Grimwood to pull one back before Ross denied Boto, who had also seen a first-half effort hacked off the line.
When Tom Trevivian was upended in the box with ten minutes to go, Paul Berry added the fifth from the spot. Matty Broom put a more respectable face on the scoreline for the Villagers five minutes from time after more confusion in the Woodbridge defence.
Woodbridge team: Marcus Garnham; Jon Bickers, Aaran Sheppard, Ben Miller, Jamie Scales; Aaron Churchyard, Paul Hart, Ben Garnham, Ben Seaman; Lee O’Neill, Tony Boto. Subs: Grant Monaghan, Tom Trevivian, Luke Read, Paul Berry.
