Paul Berry provides Woodbridge with a narrow
victory |
| Tuesday 31st July 2007 |
| Cornard United 0 Woodbridge Town
1 |
| Paul Berry scored the only goal
in Woodbridge Town's second pre season fixture at Cornard
United. |
|
| Paul Hart, Lee
O'Neill, and Ben Seaman were missing from the
Woodbridge line up that had outplayed Stowmarket
Town three days earlier but Cornard United who
finished last season seven points behind
Stowmarket proved a much tougher nut to crack.
With Allicion Blake still away, Liam Hillyard
started in the Woodbridge front line with
Captain Jamie Scales and Ben Garnham returning
after missing the the Stowmarket match through
illness. |
| At the start it
appeared if Woodbridge might achieve a similar
tally to that earned at Greens Meadow
controlling possession during the first five
minutes earning a free kick that was drilled low
and spilled by the Cornard keeper but the
rebound fell to Paul Berry and was comfortably
dispatched. Thereafter however, goal action
during the first half was restricted with the
best chance for Woodbridge a fierce drive by Tom
Trevivian that was well tipped over by the
Cornard keeper. |
| Both sides had
opportunities to advance the scoreline in the
second period but Woodbridge were constantly
frustrated by the Cornard defence and rarely had
a clear sight of goal whilst Cornard ended the
match looking the team most likely to
score. |
| The visiting
spectators who outnumbered their home
counterparts will no doubt have been satisfied
with another clean sheet but will also be
eagerly awaiting the season's approach when
Allicion Blake, Lee O'Neill, Ben Seaman and Paul
Hart contest for a place together in a starting
line up. |
| Woodbridge
continue their pre season fixtures on Saturday
4th August with a 2.00pm kick off at SIL Premier
Division Grundisburgh. |
