WOODBRIDGE TOWN 4         THETFORD TOWN 3
Saturday 27th April 2013

Woodbridge Town produced an amazing comeback to win the game after being three goals down at half time.

They found themselves two goals down after only three minutes when in only the first minute Valter Rocha lobbed over Woodbridge keeper Tom Sills to open the scoring. Thetford made it 2-0 when Kyle Parish beat the offside trap and finished with an accurate shot.   Rocha then shot over after 13 minutes as the away team dominated the early stages. Liam Scopes shot went over for the home team after 16 minutes. Arron Holden then came close after 23 minutes for Thetford. Luke Bailey's cross was well held by Sills after 38 minutes. Mark Roper's header went just over after 40 minutes and Scopes' shot was on target after 40 minutes for the Woodpeckers but the away team scored a third after 42 minutes when Parish headed home from the edge of the area.

Woodbridge were a different team in the second half and Scopes' effort went just over after 47 minutes but a minute later his header was deflected in by Aaron Churchyard to pull a goal back. Scopes' header was deflected wide for a corner after 53 minutes as Woodbridge piled on the pressure. They promptly made it 3-2 after 54 minutes when James Churchill's corner was again met by Churchyard who easily beat Thetford keeper Ian Fancett. Roper's cross then hit the bar after 64 minutes and Scopes again tested Fancett after 71 minutes. Roper's free kick went just over after 80 minutes but Churchill hit an accurate shot from an angle to equalise after 84 minutes.  James Hubbard's persistence after 88 minutes paid off when he beat the defender and finished superbly to make it 4-3 and all credit to Woodbridge who proved a game is not over at 3-0.

HAVERHILL ROVERS 3                 WOODBRIDGE TOWN 0
Saturday 13th April 2013

This was Haverhill's first win for four weeks, their last one being over the same side as they completed the double over Woodbridge

and returned to the home form they have been missing of late.

Haverhill took the lead in the 18th minute following a through ball from Ross Elkins, Jack Wilkinson drilling a blockbuster 25 yard effort into the far top right corner past goalkeeper Tom Sills.

Some excellent saves from home 'keeper Ed Wootten kept his side in the lead until they doubled it after 56 minutes, Neil Cogger being played in and, using the outside of his left boot 15 yards out, he left Sills unable to do anything but slow the ball with his hand on its way to goal.
The final goal came three minutes later from the penalty spot, Ben Miller bringing down Jack Higgs in the Woodbridge penalty area and the returning Dan Cornwell netting from the kick.

FELIXSTOWE & WALTON  UTD 2 WOODBRIDGE TOWN 1
Tuesday 12th March 2013

HADLEIGH UNITED 1                   WOODBRIDGE TOWN 1
Tuesday 5th March 2013
Woodbridge Town were unlucky not to collect the three points yet again

after Saturdays 1-1 draw with Mildenhall and conceded the equaliser in the last minute. Manager Mark Scopes' policy of giving young players a chance is now beginning to reap rewards.

Aaron Greenwood's effort went over the bar after 3 minutes for the visitors and James Churchill's shot was saved by Hadleigh keeper Dan Heath after 5 minutes. The home team came close with Matt Downing shots after 7 and 19 minutes which were well saved by Tom Sills. Downing's shot was over the bar after 75 minutes for Hadleigh and Greenwood came close again after 81 minutes but his cross went just wide. In the last minute Mark Ray headed off the line for the Woodpeckers but the home team equalised in the last seconds from a corner when Danny Bloomfield headed past Sills.

WOODBRIDGE TOWN 1        MILDENHALL TOWN 1
Saturday 2nd March 2013
Woodbridge Town produced a plucky performance against fourth placed Mildenhall Town,

were perhaps unlucky not to pick up all three points and were denied a penalty in the last minute.

Mildenhall had the better of the first half and Kris Thomas shot wide in the first minute. After 4 minutes Darryl Coakley's side foot shot just missed the target for the visitors. Mildenhall took the lead after 15 minutes when Steve Holder's header just crossed the line from a corner. David Cooper's curling cross after 22 minutes went the wrong side of the post. Woodbridge replied when Aaron Greenwood's corner was met by James Hubbard but his header went wide after 27 minutes. WALSHAM LE WILLOWS 3 WOODBRIDGE TOWN 0
Saturday 23rd February 2013
Woodbridge Town fielded a team with an average age of 22 and also 11 out of the 15 selected came through their youth policy.

The Woodpeckers more than matched their opponents but finishing was the difference between the teams.

Woodbridge started well and the dangerous Aaron Greenwood was fouled just outside the penalty area after 11 minutes with the resulting free kick going over the bar. However after 13 minutes the winger was brought down yet again inside the area. Liam Scopes stepped up but his penalty was well parried by Walsham keeper Duncan Mcanally. The home team threatened after 18 minutes when Jack Brame's shot was well saved by Woodbridge keeper Tom Sills. Walsham took the lead against the run of play after 20 minutes when Ollie Hughes shot from the edge of the area beat Sills. The Woodpeckers immediately hit back after 21 minutes when Aaron Churchyard's pass to Kelsey Trotter and his shot went wide. Greenwood went off injured on the half hour after a bad tackle and Trotter came close after 39 minutes when his shot was well saved by Mcanally. Woodbridge Town fought back well in the closing stages but failed to recover from conceding a goal in the first minute..

Dereham opened the scoring when Adam Smith's corner was headed in by Luke Tuttle. Paul Berry's free kick after 39 minutes was again saved by Wilton. Dereham's Craig Bussens effort after 42 minutes was deflected wide for a corner but a minute later Matt Howard swooped on a loose ball to beat Glyn Dixon in the Woodbridge goal to put the away team two up.

Dereham effectively killed the game off after 46 minutes when Bussens' shot from an acute angle made it 3-0. Tuttle efforts were well saved by Dixon after 72 minutes but Woodbridge never gave up and Mark Roper's shot from the edge of the area pulled a goal back after 75 minutes. Gilfedder's free kick after 85 minutes was tipped over by Wilton and perhaps Woodbridge were unlucky to lose by two goals.

WOODBRIDGE TOWN 2 ELY CITY 2
Saturday 9th February 2013
A draw was probably a fair result although Woodbridge had chances at the end to win the game.

Ely started well and after 2 minutes unfortunate Kelsey Trotter headed the ball into his own goal to open the scoring. Ross Gilfedder's shot after 13 minutes was well saved by Ely keeper Lee Pacey. Ely came close again after 18 minutes when Nick Impey's shot was well saved by Glyn Dixon. Ben Miller was replaced after 32 minutes with a knee injury after a questionable tackle which left the referee in a conundrum with the challenge perhaps worthy of a red card. Just before half time the home team equalised when Gilfedder was brought down inside the penalty area and Liam Scopes stepped up to convert to send Pacey the wrong way.

Craig Stuart's shot after 50 minutes was on target and Impey was again denied by Dixon after 52 minutes. Austen Diaper's shot went wide after 65 minutes. The Woodpeckers took the lead after 70 minutes when Gilfedder's 35 yard free kick beat Pacey. A minute later Jonathan Fryatt's effort was well saved by Pacey. Woodbridge dominated the last 15 minutes and Gilfedder's header was over the bar after 82 minutes and Substitute James Churchill's shot went wide of the post. After 87 minutes Scopes' header hit the crossbar and Ely then came close to gaining all three points on the break as Diaper's shot was parried for a corner by Dixon.

WOODBRIDGE TOWN 0               GORLESTON 1
Saturday 12th January  2013
One goal decided proceedings with Gorleston top scorer Alli Mckenna providing the winning goal on the hour.

Hubbard threatened after 70 and 76 minutes but his shots were blocked by Pride as Woodbridge searched for an equaliser. Suffolk F.A. Premier Cup Quarter Final

LEISTON 1                      WOODBRIDGE TOWN 0
Tuesday 8th January  2013
Woodbridge Town more than held their own against a Leiston team 2 leagues above but failed to create enough clear cut chances

after dominating possession at Victory Road.

The effervescent Jonathan Fyatt's shot after 7 minutes tested Leiston keeper Shaun Phillips. Adam Clarke's cross for the visitors was well saved again by Phillips. Woodbridge were playing the better football and Tom Trevivian's cross after 29 minutes was headed just over by Fryatt. Leiston were always dangerous from Corner kicks and Stuart Boardley's cross was headed wide by Joe Jefford after 31 minutes. Fryatt's second penalty appeal in the last two matches after 34 minutes was in vain as the referee waved play on. Leiston took the lead against the run of play after 40 minutes when Boardley's corner was met by Leiston captain David Head who made no mistake.

Leiston came close after 63 minutes when Boardley's corner was again met by Jefford but his header hit the post. After 70 minutes Josh Merritt hit the same post from 25 yards but the Woodpeckers deserved their luck and dominated the last 20 minutes with Ryan Stafford's curling effort just wide after 74 minutes. Substitute James Churchill's efforts over the bar after 81 minutes and his shot on target after 82 minutes failed to beat Phillips. Woodbridge never gave up and Clarke's pass was met by Ross Gilfedder in the dying seconds and his shot again tested Phillips.

Jerrell Layne found himself clean through for the visitors with Glyn Dixon to beat but his shot went wide after 8 minutes. Jonathan Fryatt's shot after 13 minutes was again well saved by Moyes and in an uneventful first half his appeals for a penalty after 38 minutes were unsuccessful.

The dangerous Hubbard's header was well saved by Moyes after 84 minutes as Woodbridge came close again and Trotter's shot was wide after 86 minutes but Hadleigh held on for the draw.

WOODBRIDGE TOWN 3             STANWAY ROVERS 2
Saturday 29th December 2012
Woodbridge Town produced a stupendous comeback to gain all three points after being two goals down

The visitors took the lead after 29 minutes when Terry Rymer's shot from the edge of the penalty area beat Woodbridge keeper Glyn Dixon. The Woodbridge fightback began after 77 minutes when Substitute Ben Miller, almost with his first touch flicked in a corner to make it 2-1. Woodbridge equalised after 80 minutes when Paul Berry's shot was deflected in by Kelsey Trotter to make it 2-2. Woodbridge were now a different team and Liam Scopes came close after 83 minutes but his shot went wide as they searched for the winner. WOODBRIDGE TOWN 1       FELIXSTOWE & WALTON UNITED 3
Wednesday 26th December 2012
Felixstowe and Walton United deservedly took the three points in the boxing day local derby.

The visitors took the lead after only 8 minutes when free scoring Ben Cranfield's overhead kick beat Woodbridge keeper Tom Sills. Woodbridge quickly replied but Ross Gilfedder's shot a minute later was just wide. James Hubbard's header was saved by Felixstowe keeper Danny Crump after 10 minutes and he also saved Kelsey Trotter's effort after 21 minutes as the Woodpeckers pressed for an equaliser. After 51 minutes it was 3-0 when former Woodpecker Lewis Pemberton's cross was met by Cranfield who easily beat Sills to score his sixth goal in his last three games. Woodbridge pulled a goal back when an audacious cross by Adam Clarke was headed home by Hubbard. Cole's shot after 64 minutes was well saved by Sills as Felixstowe came close to a fourth. Hubbard efforts after 72 and 83 minutes came close but the Woodpeckers were unable to add to the scoreline.

NORWICH UNITED 1         WOODBRIDGE TOWN 1
Saturday 15th December 2012
With Woodbridge's recent form the hopes for another three points looked good in the mid-table clash at Norwich United.
Woodbridge started strong keeping possession from the off, before losing out to Shipley. This saw Norwich on the counter attack, with a great lofted through ball to Bluth who looked certain to score, but struck high. The next five minutes of the game were dominated by Norwich with some great midfield possession and passing, this saw a great move into the Woodbridge town box to only be struck wide by Norwich's Hunter. Woodbridge started to look stronger and more settled after being on the back foot, this saw great build up play involving the whole of midfield before passing wide for Ben Miller to deliver a poor cross. Norwich who had started well seemed to be finding that form again with some great wing play, leading to their first goal. A brilliantly timed ball from Hunter to meet the head of Bluth. From the kick off Woodbridge looked like they wanted a goal back, fighting for the ball more and keeping possession much better, this led to few chances but one of the best in the game, with Kelsey Trotter through on goal being saved, came back out to Ryan Stafford where it was cleared off the line by Hunter, half time came and the game looked open for both teams.

Second half underway and Woodbridge looked strong, some good play and a good chance which James Hubbard hit high, this left some space in Woodbridge's defence which Norwich looked to use, but a last ditch challenge from Craig Stuart saw Woodbridge safe. The rest of the game was a midfield battle of who could keep the ball longest and create space and in the 89th minute this is what Woodbridge did, with a great run from Ben Miller into the box and being brought down for a Woodbridge Town penalty. Substitute Liam Scopes stepped up to the spot and converted with a neat finish into the bottom corner. Could Woodbridge snatch a winner? This is what they attempted, with a great effort from James Hubbard winning Woodbridge a corner which was deflected wide for another corner. After 3 corners the ball was cleared and the full time whistle blown.

WOODBRIDGE TOWN 5                      F.C. CLACTON 2
Saturday 8th December 2012
In-form Woodbridge Town gained all three points against bottom club FC Clacton
in an entertaining match at Notcutts Park. The away team started brightly and Woodbridge keeper Tom Sills made good saves from Jake Clowsley after 4 and 5 minutes to keep the scoreline blank. Ryan Stafford's shot was wide after 10 minutes for the Woodpeckers. Clowsley threatened again after 17 minutes but his overhead kick went over the bar. Woodbridge took the lead after 20 minutes with a superb 25 yard effort by James Hubbard which gave FC Clacton keeper Ed Wootten no chance. Three minutes later and it was 2-0 when Adam Clarke's cross was met by Stafford who made no mistake. A minute later they took the lead when a quick free kick by full debutant Jonathan Fryatt was crossed into the penalty area by Stuart and his pass was met by Kelsey Trotter who slotted the ball home. Ben Deacon's curling shot failed to trouble Tom Sills as the away team hit back. The dangerous Fryatt came close to a second goal after 82 minutes with a clever flick and shot which missed the target. After 86 minutes Hubbard was upended in the penalty area and Roper stepped up to make it a fully deserved 4-0 final scoreline.

GODMANCHESTER ROVERS 1 WOODBRIDGE TOWN 1
Saturday 17th November 2012
Woodbridge Town started the game with Liam Scopes and Aaron Churchyard up front

due to injuries and unavailability but were unable to gain a deserved second goal and found Godmanchester keeper Rob Mackney in inspired form.

The home team opened the scoring against the run of play after 9 minutes when Jack Werndly swooped on a loose ball to shoot past Tom Sills. The Woodpeckers replied after 15 minutes when Scopes' 25 yard effort went wide. Scopes came close again after 22 minutes but his shot was saved by Mackney. Ryan Stafford's free kick was on target after 26 minutes and Scopes' through ball found Churchyard but his shot went over the bar as Woodbridge pressed for an equaliser after 29 minutes. Churchyard came close again after 34 minutes but his shot was cleared by the Godmanchester defence.

Churchyard came close again after 56 minutes but his shot was deflected wide by Mackney. In the dying seconds Kelsey Trotter's pass to Scopes and his shot was well saved by Mackney yet again and Scopes' powerful header hit the bar but Godmanchester held on for the draw.

WOODBRIDGE TOWN 2                     KIRKLEY & PAKEFIELD 2
Saturday 10th November 2012
Woodbridge Town had to settle for point after being ahead in the game twice.

Missing the injured Paul Berry, Paul Hart and Mark Ray and with Glyn Dixon suspended and Liam Scopes playing as a centre forward the Woodpeckers were unlucky not to pick up all three points.

Kirkley Centre forward Ryan Crisp's shot went over the bar in the second minute. Woodbridge replied after 5 minutes when James Hubbard's shot failed to trouble Kirkley keeper Jordan Smith. Scopes' header was on target after 12 minutes and Adam Clarke's cross was met by Hubbard but his shot went wide. Scopes was again on target after 24 minutes but the dangerous Crisp's cross shot was well saved by Woodbridge keeper Tom Sills a minute later. Ryan Stafford's corner was then met by Darcy D'eath but his header failed to hit the target after 36 minutes. On the stroke of half time Woodbridge opened the scoring when Ben Miller's shot was deflected in by Scopes.

After 58 minutes Michael Tacon's header came close for the visitors but Crisp made no mistake after 61 minutes with a powerful header past Sills. After 66 minutes the Woodpeckers retook the lead when Hubbard's cross was met by Ryan Stafford who made no mistake with an excellent volley. Hubbard came close again after 70 minutes when his header crashed against the crossbar. After 84 minutes Kyle Baker's effort went over the bar for the visitors and the hard working Hubbard's industry created the chance for Woodbridge but his shot went wide. After 88 minutes the visitors equalised when Tarren Grint's cross was headed in by Crisp. Substitute Aaron Greenwood's pinpoint cross was met by Scopes in the last seconds but he failed to find the target.

WOODBRIDGE TOWN 2                     DISS TOWN 0
Woodbridge Town dominated proceedings to take the three points from Diss Town
Kelsey Trotter's shot after 2 minutes was on target and Allicion Blake's effort after 6 minutes was easily saved by Diss keeper Matthew Webster. Trotter's shot after 12 minutes failed to trouble Webster. The Woodpeckers took the lead after 15 minutes when Aaron Churchyard's pass was slotted home by Liam Scopes. Diss had the better of the rest of the first half with Robert Peake's shot after 33 minutes wide and his shot after 38 minutes which were well saved by Glyn Dixon. Left back Stuart Garner's shot was also on target after 42 minutes for the visitors.

Peake's shot after 50 minutes went over the bar as Diss pressed for an equaliser. Trotter's effort after 53 minutes was saved by Webster. Mark Ray's cross was headed wide by Paul Hart after 59 minutes and Hart's curling shot was on target shortly afterwards. Scopes' thunderous free kick was tipped over by Webster after 68 minutes. Jordan Rocastle's effort was saved by Dixon after 79 minutes but after 84 minutes Ryan Stafford's free kick was well saved by Webster and the resulting rebound was swept home by Tom Trevivian to make the game safe.

MILDENHALL TOWN 2           WOODBRIDGE TOWN 1
Mildenhall climbed to the top of the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division for the first time in five years after a hard-fought win over Woodbridge.

In a tight first half, the visitors had the first of few chances after ten minutes. Aaron Churchyard’s shot squirmed through goalkeeper Josh Pope’s grasp, but Adarian Judge recovered to clear off the line. The home side grew stronger as the half wore on, inspired by the excellent James Paterson, and it was his tackle that led to the opening goal on 26 minutes. The ball ran to Andrew Wood, who dispatched a stunning strike into the roof of the net from 25 yards.

The defining spell of the match came in the three minutes just after the hour mark. First a Paterson pass released Wood on goal, but a heavy touch let down the striker, and within 30 seconds Michael Harvey tripped Tom Trevivian at the other end to concede a penalty, which was duly converted to equalise. But parity lasted just a minute, with Kris Thomas bursting down the right flank before delivering a perfect cross for Wood to head home. Without the leadership of skipper Dave Werthmann, forced off by injury in the first half, Mildenhall dropped very deep in the final 20 minutes as the away side pushed hard for a leveller. But Harvey and Judge defended manfully and Woodbridge had only two Paul Hart headers – which both drifted wide – to show for their efforts.

WOODBRIDGE TOWN 4    GRUNDISBURGH 1
Woodbridge Town got back to winning ways with a Churchman Cup Final victory and a hard fought win over Grundisburgh.

In only the first minute Liam Scopes' free kick was well saved by the Grundisburgh keeper. Paul Hart opened the scoring after 6 minutes when his lob from 35 yards beat the advancing keeper. He doubled the scoring after 24 minutes with a shot from the edge of the penalty area. After 32 minutes Kelsey Trotter crossed from the right and Mark Ray's shot made it three. WIVENHOE TOWN 3           WOODBRIDGE TOWN 0
It was a classic ‘game of two halves’ at Broad Lane as Woodbridge dominated the first half but then conceded three second half goals to the rampant Dragons.

The Woodpeckers might have gone ahead after just 3 minutes when they were awarded a penalty for an apparent trip. However, Roper hit the spot-kick too close to Richie Robins, who dived to his right to gather the ball comfortably. The Dragons were limited to occasional breakaways whilst Robins saved well from a Gilfedder header and with his feet when Churchyard was through on goal.

Woodbridge continued their neat passing game in the second half but on 53 minutes conceded a free kick on the right. Blanchett whipped in a cross which appeared to be diverted into the goal by Dadds; Dadds was flagged offside but the ball was adjudged to have gone straight in. Woodbridge were rattled by the goal and Wivenhoe took advantage as within a minute Dadds crossed from the right and Tom Moore crashed the ball into the roof of the net at the far post. Moore was the villain on the hour however as he was sent off for a second yellow card and in the ensuing melee ‘keeper Dixon received a straight red after hitting out at Parkin.

Ten-a-side suited Wivenhoe and on 73 minutes a superb interplay of passes down the right ended with Lampon laying the ball back to Butcher who hit a fine rising shot past Sills from 12 yards.

Ben Deacon then made it 3-0 after 38 minutes with a neat finish. Mayhew came close again on the stroke of half time but his shot was well saved by Dixon.

His shot was again saved by Dixon after 47 minutes as Brantham dominated. Paul Hart's free kick went wide after 52 minutes but Mayhew completed his hat-trick after 62 minutes with a shot from the edge of the penalty area after a pass by Deacon. Hart's 25 yard effort shortly afterwards failed to test Brantham keeper Ryan Bedingfield. After 67 minutes Scopes' through ball was met by Ross Gilfedder who easily beat Bedingfield for the visitors. Deacon's shot after 79 minutes was saved by Dixon and Lee Grimwood's effort was again saved by Dixon. Late efforts by Scopes failed to beat Bedingfield.

WOODBRIDGE TOWN 1             NORWICH UNITED 3
Woodbridge Town's poor run continued with a home defeat to Norwich United and they found themselves two down after only 11 minutes.

Ross Gilfedder's shot after 22 minutes was saved by Norwich keeper Ben Nower and his shot was turned aside after 31 minutes. Paul Berry's cross shot was on target but after 41 minutes Woodbridge pulled a goal back when Berry's cross was headed into his own net by a Norwich defender. The home team came close to equalising a minute later when Gilfedder's shot was parried for a corner by Nower.

Hunter's shot was on target after 54 minutes for the visitors and Hart's free kick was saved by Nower. After 61 minutes the Woodpeckers came close again when Gilfedder's shot was again saved by Nower after a cross from Adam Clarke. Ben Miller's shot was cleared off the line after 73 minutes as Woodbridge dominated the play. After 86 minutes the away team made the game safe when a Dixon pass was intercepted by substitute Robin Anderson and his cross was met by Jordan Blyth to shoot home.

WHITTON UNITED 2            WOODBRIDGE TOWN 1 (AET)
Whitton United defeated Woodbridge Town in extra time thanks to an inspired display by former Felixstowe keeper Liam Jones.

Paul Hart's effort after 7 minutes was well saved by Jones, however after 11 minutes the Woodpeckers conceded a disputed penalty after a Liam Scopes tackle. Former Ipswich Town Youth player Kevin Inglis easily beat Glyn Dixon with the penalty. After 14 minutes a Virglio Leitao shot went wide and Inglis came close again when his shot went over the bar for Whitton. After 24 minutes Paul Berry's pass to Hart was again saved by Jones. Woodbridge equalised after 39 minutes when Allicion Blake's shot was parried by Jones and the resulting rebound was headed in by Hart.

Berry's shot after 82 minutes was on target and in the last minute of normal time his curling shot hit the post.

Blake's shot went wide after 106 minutes as the away team pressed for an equaliser and he came close again shortly afterwards when from point blank range yet again Jones blocked his effort. Scopes' shot after 115 minutes was on target and with four minutes left Ben Seaman was brought down inside the penalty area. Blake's powerful penalty beat Jones but hit the crossbar and the home team held on for the victory.

CAMBRIDGE REGIONAL COLLEGE 4        WOODBRIDGE TOWN 1
